For us, solar power was a must have component of our van conversion. We always planned to work using our laptops in summer and winter to earn enough money to keep us travelling. We started our first European adventure with one 200w solar panel. In Norway we were travelling in 20 hours of daylight, but as the days got shorter, we discovered we had underestimated the amount of power we would need during the winter months. It became clear that we needed a larger solar power set up to keep our batteries charged. When living in a van over winter we learnt two things:  1) There are fewer hours ..read more

For us solar power was a must have component of our van conversion. We always planned to work using our laptops in summer and winter to earn enough money to keep us travelling. After our first adventure into Europe over the second half of 2020 we realised we needed a larger solar power set up to charge up our batteries. We underestimated the amount of power we would need during the winter months. When iving in a van over winter you need to realise two things: 1) there are going to be few hours of sunshine, meaning you will generate less solar power and 2) you will spend more time in the van, w ..read more

We are excited to launch Van Conversion Layouts to help other self-builders design their dream van! Our downloadable packages include scale-drawings to help you design your own campervan conversion. We provide suggested dimensions which can help you plan out your own space. We used our backgrounds in architecture and art to plan, visualise and put together our own van conversion. It was one phase that we really enjoyed, but we know that this is the case for everyone. If you’re looking for an extra bit of guidance with the design process, hopefully our new project will help to make your dream ..read more

After 7 months back in the UK we are planning on heading back into Europe for (all being well) an eight month adventure across several more countries. After our first journey through Europe we learnt that planning with too much detail is usually a waste of time. Plans change, we all know this more than ever after the last year. Our ‘plan’ now is much more relaxed, we have an aim and some ideas, but see no point in planning your day three months in advance. Living in a van is full of change, this is one of the reasons we love it. In our old lives we made more solid plans as our day to day routi ..read more

When you live in a tiny home, you need to find clever storage solutions. Van life forces you to become a minimalist – you’ll need to find a space for everything and be very selective about which clothes and possessions you have with you. You also need to secure and stow away everything before you drive to avoid things flying around when you turn each corner! We don’t have a designated ‘garage’ space in our van, so we’ve had to come up with lots of solutions to store our possessions safely. Although we admit our van is often a mess, we can store everything away and keep it looking tidy when we ..read more

Our first ‘proper’ adventure in our van was in July 2020 and lasted until we got back to the UK in January 2021. We returned to the UK as we needed to get an MOT. We spent the next 7 months waiting to get back to Europe! Despite being a few months later than planned this trip was fantastic, writing this is giving me chills, I want to go back and do it all over again! The map below shows our rough driving route (in red, if you didn’t figure that out). You can see some of what we got up to on our Instagram stories. I plan on doing some smaller more detailed maps to show where we went and where w ..read more

Getting the best deal for your camper van insurance is a must, it will help you save money you can put towards some upgrades and/or road trips! Getting cheaper insurance depends on your age, driving experience and postcode. None of these were in our favour when we first bought our van, so we’ve outlined how to get the cheapest insurance possible despite this. The truth is there are no quick and easy ways to get cheaper van insurance. You have to give over all your details and the underwriters will give you a quote, hiding information and not giving the correct details will end in a world of tr ..read more
