“The beautiful woman of your dreams transforms before your eyes, gaining a fiendish tail, bat-like wings, and a pair of ram-like horns. Her eyes glint with dark power, and as soon as you meet their gaze you once again feel enthralled and ready to give your life for her.” https://dnd-wiki.org/wiki/Succubus_(3.5e_Monster) “I doubt you will ever find anyone else who can make getting your soul sucked out of you feel so good.” The succubus is a type of demon. They are usually depicted as seductive and alluring creatures, often taking the form of attractive women in order to manipulate and tem ..read more

The Bandit Raid – Part 4
The DnD Geek
by Dylan Beckbessinger

It was close to midnight when the thieves reached the base of the plateau. They’d been climbing the mountain over the drow caves since the fight – they’d found Cairne a short distance ahead of them, carving the drow that had wounded him to shreds. The Dragon they were planning to rob had made it’s nest, along with it’s hoard, within a pit dug out from a large, round outcropping within the mountain that was common in the area. The result was a fortified pit with forty-foot-high walls in the middle of rough mountain terrain. While this would usually make it less attractive as a target, the ban ..read more

The Bandit Raid – Part 3

“So, who’s the mark?” Knicks inquired, the point of her dagger balancing on her finger. “I don’t like going South. Caves are South” Mor eloquently complained, keeping half an eye on the girl riding his shoulder. At his massive size, (He was large even by orcish standards) Knicks – the smallest human member of the group, was able to ride on his shoulder like she was sitting on a chair. It was the reason they had refused to let him get spiked pauldrons to go with the rest of his armour. Gallywig responded from the other shoulder. He was practically lounging on it. “South is where the caves ar ..read more

Knicks was sitting on the edge of camp. Watching one of the few men in the camp who she respected cross the horizon with a gnommish bard on his shoulder. She’d volunteered for early watch since she couldn’t sleep – she was still angry at the cat-calls she’d gotten in her armor from the newer members of the camp. Yes, she was in leather armor, but it wasn’t that demonshit “The less you see, the more it protects” armor you saw some of the elves wear at arena fights, it most certainly wasn’t that “+5 to exhibitionism” armor that drow women wore that didn’t even have enough material or coverage ..read more

Barna arrived at the camp to find it in ruin. Bodies were strewn over the walls, throughout the camp, and piled up in front of the chiefs’ Hut. The young Bandit ran to his chiefs corpse, noting the bite marks that ravaged his body. He fell back into a sitting position and sighed. There was only one creature alive capable of this particular flavour of carnage. Suddenly he heard Galliwigs voice calling out. “Barna? Are you back?” Barna couldn’t muster any reaction to this but to fall on his back and laugh. As long as their priest had survived, they would all be fine. “Yes, Gal. Looks li ..read more

Surviving the Mercer effect
The DnD Geek
by Dylan Beckbessinger
2y ago
Many dungeon masters and players alike have heard of the Mercer effect, and it’s one of the most prevalent issues of D&D at the moment. Today we’ll be taking a look at what it is, how it might affect your table, and what to do about it.  The nature of the beast For those who haven’t heard of it, the Mercer effect is when players, or DMs, expect a D&D game to have the same level of quality as the famous D&D stream, DM’d by Matthew Mercer, Critical Role. Now, while it’s OK to have high hopes for a game, expecting your game to have that level of immersive roleplay, fleshed-o ..read more

The Bandit King – Part 3
The DnD Geek

As the sun set over the group, crimson and burgundy shades dancing in the sky like the magic of the day and night grappling at each other in some cosmic wizard’s duel, Hidan couldn’t help but marvel at his own magical friend’s focus. His power had grown steadily over the past year – this was their third such excursion out of town and they had known that if they survived this one they would be full-fledged adventurers – that their power would only grow more extreme. Hidan watched Sol and Luna’s great duel in the sky and pondered if his friend would ever wield that kind of arcane might.   ..read more

A Game Created by a Tweet: How I Hosted a Difficult Game for my Players
The DnD Geek
by Megan Hockersmith

As a Dungeon Master, I strive to create challenges for my players. However, sometimes my plans don’t work out; I tend to underestimate my players and in turn create a game that is easy for them to overcome with minor obstacles. However, one simple thing changed that: a tweet that I stumbled upon. I usually tend to laugh at tweets I come across and then scroll past them, but this one, in particular, caught my eye. I couldn’t remember the last time I’d actually used a maze as a Dungeon Master because I usually create cave systems that are somewhat easy to navigate. However, this idea was too g ..read more

D&D Dice – Why so many?
The DnD Geek
by Richard Eccles
3y ago
Over the years when I have had to explain what Dungeons and Dragons is, one of the many questions I hear is – Why are there so many dice? In D&D there are 7 dice that are used – some more than others but at some point, you will use them all. Polyhedral Dice. You will see many-sided “Polyhedral” dice available if you search for DND Dice or D&D Dice. Some are different colours and some are metal or plastic, but do you need them all? Well, this depends on a number of factors. Dice are used for everything, from deciding stats to figuring out if you dealt damage or even hit a target. Di ..read more
