Believe it or not, what you eat can either cause snoring or make the nightly tirade that is keeping others awake and compromising your health a lot louder! To put it simply, anything that takes up space in your airway can make you snore. Excess mucus (phlegm) or inflamed tissues within your nose and throat vibrate whist you are struggling to breathe. What many snorers don’t realize is that food allergies – or even seemingly mild intolerances – can lead to a build-up of mucus in the nose and throat. Ordinarily, the body produces mucus to line, moisten and cleanse the nasal passages an ..read more

Snoring Women Out of the Closet!

Are we talking about weight and hormones again? Well yes.  I am menopausal, my oestrogen levels are non existent. My body weight is harder to control and the texture of my skin has started to change. I would be naive to think that these exterior visible changes were not happening from an internal level as well. It is at this point I have to admit that I have been told I snore. When I am asleep the air passing through my narrowed airway causes the soft tissue at the back of my throat to vibrate, hence the noise.  Some nights are worse than others especially after a glass of wine. Loud snoring could be your body’s way of warning you that you could develop diabetes! Believe it or not, researchers at University of Pittsburgh not only found that loud snorers were twice as likely to get diabetes, but that the chance of developing diabetes was as high as 80 percent for those who battle to fall asleep and 70 percent for those who regularly wake in the morning feeling unrefreshed. Snorers who are frequently prodded and woken by an irritated sleep partner are at risk – but those with a more serious condition known as sleep apnoea should really sit up in bed ..read more

IS THERE A PERMANENT CURE FOR SNORING?
Snore Meds Blog

Is surgery the ultimate snoring solution? I did not want to be the bearer of bad news, but NO there is no cure for snoring! However there are some remedies and snoring solutions that work better than others. We are often asked if surgery would permanently cure snoring and I am sure many more snorers would opt for this solution if there was a definite YES. ENT specialists regard this type of surgery as non invasive. So we asked a few Snorers who had the procedure: how well it worked? how the pain was tolerated? and did it stop the snoring indefinitely? A large percentage of the patients intervi ..read more

My snoring woke my friends!
Snore Meds Blog

For years my husband has been mentioning that I snore. I’ve generally been able to find an excuse – I have a cold, my hay fever is playing up or I am pregnant. If none of these applied, obviously he was mistaken, and it was the dog who sleeps soundly in a basket on my side of the bed snoring away contentedly. How sweet! Recently on a girls’ weekend away with friends, though, I was mortified when my two roommates approached me about my snoring. With none of my usual denials in play (I’m in perfect health, certainly not pregnant and the dog hadn’t accompanied me), I had to ..read more

Imagine this: You’ve waited for ages to spend the night with your new husband. Your daydreams have included lots of cuddles, intimate conversations before you drift off to sleep, the caress of his breath on your cheek as he embraces you while you slumber and waking rested next to the love of your life. Turns out reality is very different because your man is a snorer. Instead of a good night’s sleep in his arms, you have spent the night alternately shoving him into a new position or trying to block the sound by putting your pillow over your head. You’ve awoken feeling exhau ..read more

Battling to sleep while your wife snores beside you, but far too frightened to discuss the issue with her in case she freaks out? You’re not the only one. Women are often much more sensitive about snoring than men. It’s considered unladylike and can cause intense embarrassment so many husbands would rather live with the noise than inform their wives that they snore. When you consider the health implications of snoring, it’s obvious that a difficult conversation is necessary. Snoring affects both physical and psychological health in both the snorer and their partner and can ..read more

Men’s Most Annoying Habit

In a recent survey about men’s habits that women can’t stand, snoring came out tops with a staggering 46% of the votes – a very broad lead considering the runner-up, flatulence, only hit 33%. More than a quarter of Americans recently confessed that a snoring bed partner makes them annoyed or angry, with one in five saying a snoring partner could drive them out of bed altogether. With the ratio of men-to-women who snore stacked on the male side, most of these frustrated partners are likely to be women. Why is snoring so vexing for women, though? Simple – if your partner sn ..read more

What Type of Snorer are You?

It’s worthwhile to determine why you snore as it can make a big difference in finding an effective solution. The first step is to keep a sleep diary. You’ll need to enlist your partner’s help to observe patterns in your sleep and pinpoint when you snore by noticing how you are sleeping when the cacophony begins. Observing what stops you from snoring – often a change of position, not drinking any alcohol before bedtime, taking a hot shower where the steam clears the nasal passages before turning in – can also provide clues as to why you snore. These are some of the common ..read more
