Thanksgiving and our Thanks for Giving Food Drive are the kick off to the giving season and we need YOU to help make it great. Every year, amazing volunteers head to grocery store locations across the city and help turn shoppers into donors. On September 16th we hosted approximate 130 Loblaws/Provigo executive employees from across Ontario and Quebec, as they were in Ottawa for meetings. While in town, they stopped by to visit the Ottawa Food Bank so we could share with them how their grocery store locations help us to provide for the community. The team was split into two groups; while one group was getting a tour of the facility, the other group was competing in a fast paced Food Sort Challenge. We couldn’t do it without you Volunteering is not only a great help to us, but we hear that it’s incredibly rewarding for those who give their time. The kind people who volunteer with the Ottawa Food Bank help us – in the most hands-on way possible – get our neighbours beyond hunger. We are grateful to have been considered a “friend” during the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation & Friends Charity Golf Tournament at Casselview Golf & Country Club earlier this month. The grey and cool start to the day did not keep participants away from this tournament as golfers showed up with bags of non-perishable food items to donate. Monetary donations were raised through sponsorship, registration, raffle prizes, 50/50 tickets, and general generosity, and was split between the Ottawa Regional Cancer Foundation, Ride for Dad, and the Ottawa Food Bank. Thank you to Susan, Emily, and all the riders at Royale Equestrian Centre for supporting the Ottawa Food Bank. Susan, a rider at Royale, found herself with extra riding gear from her daughter. She approached Emily – owner of Royale Equestrian Centre – and asked if she could set up a food drive where riders could take these items in exchange for a food donation to the Ottawa Food Bank.  Together, Emily and Susan embraced the concept and expanded on it by asking people to donate items at various equestrian events over the course of a month.
