If you follow me on Instagram, you are probably aware that I have just returned from Croatia Pole Camp, a 4-day pole retreat. I travelled there with my Pole BFF and we had an amazing couple of days. Croatia Pole Camp takes place in Pula, on the Istrian Peninsula in the north of Croatia, a truly beautiful part of the world. This year, the headlining Pole Stars were Sarah Scott, Marion Crampe, Nadia Sharif and Josh Taylor. An amazing spot we found just a 5 minute walk from the hotel. When we were considering booking our place at camp, we couldn’t find any specific reviews of Croatia Pole Camp ..read more

Train for Pole

I started writing this post at the tail end of 2019, a year that has thrown many, MANY curveballs my way, and has seen my life change more drastically than it has in at least 5 years. I started 2019 with many lofty goals, but after we decided to move back to Australia my priorities had to shift as I planned and managed an international relocation, including the sale of a property, for a family of 4. 2019 in review Nutrition (YAY! Goal achieved) At the end of 2018, I set the goal of achieving a body fat level of 22%. While this didn’t happen in the 5-week time-frame I allocated, it DID happe ..read more

Xpert Pole Instructor Training: A review
Train for Pole
by Sara-May

I’m writing this having just returned from a weekend in the UK, where I completed the Xpert L1-L2 Pole Instructor Training. When I was considering taking an accredited pole instructor training course, I couldn’t find many reviews of Xpert Instructor Training, and the ones I could find were many years old. I’m hoping this review is helpful for anyone who is considering a pole instructor qualification. First of all, do you need a certification to teach pole? I’ve mentioned to a number of friends and colleagues that I was planning on doing a pole qualification, and I was surprised by how many peo ..read more

Grip aids are not the enemy. Here’s why.
Train for Pole

Grip-aids can be a controversial topic in the pole industry. Some people are vehemently anti grip-aid, believing that it is a crutch for aspiring pole athletes. On the other side of the argument are the people who are so pro-grip-aid that they DO become dependant on it, bathing themselves and the pole in dry-hands, and reapplying every 5 minutes. The truth lies somewhere in the middle. Some context for my personal opinion about grip-aids: As a pole instructor, there are a number of things I prioritise for my clients and students: My absolute number 1 priority above everything else is training ..read more

The importance of cross-training for pole dancers
Train for Pole

I often see pole dancing touted as a complete full-body workout. While this is kind of true, it’s also kind of a misleading statement. Generally speaking, pole is an upper-body and core-centric, strength-based workout. It typically requires elements of flexibility (primarily “active flexibility”). If you’re planning to perform or compete, high-intensity cardiovascular fitness is also a requirement. While pole is an amazing form of training, it is also an extreme sport. It’s moderately risky, particularly for your shoulders, and carries a high risk of causing a range of imbalances in you ..read more

Easy Banana Pancakes

I love breakfast. French toast, eggs benedict, avocado smash, crispy bacon, fluffy banana pancakes. These are the breakfast foods I dream about and frequently indulge in on the weekend. Breakfast cereal, toast, and the mainstays of a rushed weekday breakfast, not so much. My philosophy on food I try to primarily choose foods that I enjoy, that nourish my body, and that have a positive impact on my training goals and overall health. If I choose to eat something that doesn’t meet these criteria, then you’d better believe that it’s going to be something super delicious that nourishes my soul. For ..read more

It’s the first of January as I’m writing this, Happy New Year! I LOVE taking some time at the beginning of each year to reflect on the year that was and to make plans and set goals for the year to come.Reflections on 2018 2018 was a mixed bag of a year for me. It was the year that I started taking my training seriously, and saw some serious results. I can honestly say that I am extremely proud of the progress I have made. I feel strong, fit, and generally happy in my own skin. The flip side of this year of intense training is that I spent the better part of 2018 rehabbing various inj ..read more

Brand review: Off The Pole clothing
Train for Pole

If you have more than a passing interest in Pole Dancing, chances are, you’re already familiar with Sarah Scott, and her brand, Off the Pole. If you’re not, then you MUST go and check out her Instagram now… I’ll wait. She’s amazing, right?! Sarah’s “Off the Pole” leggings are the unofficial off-pole uniform of pole dancers worldwide. In fact, you’ve most likely seen them on Instagram, even if you didn’t recognise the branding. While I was at Croatia Pole Camp, I did a couple of Sarah Scott’s workshops. They were amazing, by the way. She had a selection of merchandise available, and I’m a ..read more

Prior to registering for Croatia Pole Camp, I had never heard of Josh Taylor. I booked his Unicorn Porn workshop PURELY because of the name. I mean, who in their right mind would decline to participate in something called Unicorn Porn?? And while there were many, many wonderful things I got from attending my first pole camp, discovering this incredible man was one of the top highlights. About Josh: Josh is an absolute firecracker of a personality. He’s loud, proud and waaaaaay out there in the most fabulous way possible. It’s also really clear as soon as you meet him, that he ..read more
