One Angler was and avid nymph fisherman boasting his technique caught one fish after the other. The other said “when you nymph fish you hunt the fish in his home, as if knocking on his door and stressing him in his safety zone, it’s not fair. I use always a dry fly because that way the trout is entering wilfully into a dance wit ..read more

EURO NYMPHING - THE IMPORTANCE OF TICKING BOTTOM IN SMALL ROCKY STREAMS Trout are pretty much constantly eating! It is a constant battle of survival to eat as much as you can while preserving energy. This means that they will try to preserve energy by not having to constantly swim hard against the current, yet be close enough to the current that is rich in food. Allowing them to pop in and out of the current to feed or to simply wait for the food to come right past them. So all they have to do is open their mouth as the food comes right past them. Of course there are exceptions and for good re ..read more

For me, chasing Yellowstone Cutthroughts on my 7"6 3# rod has been somewhat of a dream. Our second day with our guide we visited the mighty Upper Lamar in the Yellowstone national park, the expanse and beauty of this place has to be experienced to understand it truly. I had to just sit, take a moment and just look around, take a deep breath and be in the moment for a while. I could not believe we were actually here. I said to myself "this is the Upper Lamar, and I am lucky enough to experience it." The morning was quite cold so we started of nymphing and had a really good success both euro n ..read more

This particular day we were out with Danny a chap that was working with us for just a few weeks, He worked in the office and hadn't really had the chance to come out fishing with us ever. We were on the hunt for grayling and getting into some really nice fish explaining how a European nymphing setup works. So naturally we decided to mess with Danny by saying "I know that the next fish for sure is going to be a bow" he was like "how on earth do you know its going to be a rainbow" well without him knowing we changed out a nymph for a bright orange mopfly! "50 bucks next one is a rainbow" Danny ..read more

“If we were put on the spot and asked specifically where the most prolific 100 yards of trophy trout water in the world was, our response would be instant and our tone confident – ‘It is where Argentina’s Rio Barrancoso flows into Lago Strobel’ some label it surreal or incomprehensible, but for simplicity and accuracy – let’s just call it Jurassic Lake” Jurassic Lake Lodge is the original world-class Fly fishing Lodge located in one of the most remote and wild places of the Argentine Patagonia. Our lodge is strategically located at a walking distance from the inlet of the only significant trib ..read more

What is a Purist Fly Fisherman?
WHIELDON FLY FISHING
by Tom Whieldon

Many people will have there own stance on what a purist fly fisherman is or does. To me the purist, is a dry fly fisherman who wants nothing but upstream fishing, stalking their fish like a hunter stalks its prey in the forest. Using all there stealth and cunning they approach there prey already having selected which kind of insect imitation to use, having observed what is flying about and what the fish are eating that day. There hunt has been planned meticulously. Only Once all is in place, the chess pieces set, will the dry fly angler finally make his approach to the water positioning himsel ..read more
