Iowa 21, Kentucky 0: The Right Notes
Go Iowa Awesome

If someone told you before bowl season began that a team would win 21-0 despite going 0/11 on third downs and asked you who that team was, how fast would it have taken you to say "Iowa"? Kirk Ferentz & Co. engineered another Hawkeye Devil Magic performance for the record books on Saturday afternoon, as the Iowa defense swallowed up Kentucky en route to an easy 21-0 victory in the Music City Bowl.  When we say this was a performance for the record books... we're not really kidding. Kentucky punted a Music City Bowl-record 10 times (the most punts by any team in any bowl game since 2018 ..read more

Spencer Petras Is Coming Back to Iowa -- But Not To Play

Spencer Petras' time at Iowa might not be over just yet. We assumed that his tenure in Iowa City was done after injury forced him out of Iowa's regular season finale against Nebraska and left him unable to play in Saturday's Music City Bowl game. But Petras, who has started 31 of the past 34 games for Iowa over the last three seasons, apparently isn't planning to move on from Iowa just yet -- even though his playing days are done in all likelihood.  Spencer Petras tonight said he tore his rotator cuff and labrum vs. Nebraska and will be out 6 to 11 months, maybe longer. Will re ..read more

The Hyball: At Least We Know
Go Iowa Awesome

The Hyball is a weekly basketball column. Knowing is important. Knowing is a gift. Knowing puts the power back in your hands and lets you decide what to do next. When you don't know, you get strung along. You have to ask questions, figure things out. You just want to know, you know?' Aright, I'll stop the second-rate Seinfeld bit. Right now, we know Iowa men's basketball is not very good. Will they get better? Feel less sure about that than ever. Usually, we scrape to find positives or fully write a team off. Honestly don't feel like doing either; just kinda wanna... sit with it ..read more

#12 Iowa 83, Purdue 68: Holding the Lead

You can’t afford to have an off night in Big Ten play. Indiana learned that lesson well earlier today. The Hoosiers came into the day ranked #4 in the country with a perfect 12-0 record. They had several big non-conference victories and looked like a favorite or co-favorite to win the Big Ten this year. Michigan State entered the game against Indiana at 8-5. The Spartans have had a disappointing year thus far, and are far away from the NCAA Tournament bubble. On paper, Indiana vs. Michigan State looked like an easy game to call. Maybe Michigan State would keep it close in the first half, but t ..read more

The Music City Bowl: This Song is About the Future, Not the Past

Bowl games are always a bit of a crossroads event -- on one hand, they serve as a celebration/reflection back on the season that was (and the individual careers that are wrapping up). On the other hand, they're also a look into the future for the players who are remaining and who will be assuming bigger roles in the future. Sometimes that future-focused glimpse is evident more in bowl practice and game prep than the game itself, but that's not the case for Iowa this season. Between injuries, the transfer portal, and NFL Draft opt-outs, several players who were regular starters for the 2022 Iow ..read more

#13 Iowa 92, Dartmouth 54: Taking Care of Business

Iowa's Wednesday afternoon game with Dartmouth was expected to be a final tune-up before Big Ten play started in full for the Hawkeyes in about a week. It was one last chance for the ladies to work out any kinks, and feel good about themselves by torching a less-talented opponent. Iowa probably needed a game like that after the scare that UNI put in them over the weekend. Caitlin Clark and the rest of her Iowa teammates made sure that this win was the runaway rout that was expected -- and they did it right from the jump.  Iowa stormed out to a 9-0 lead right out of the gate and turned tha ..read more
