Hello! I’m building a ram pump to get water from a creek to my garden. I’m trying to use materials around the house. So far I have 46’ of 3” schedule 40 pvc as my drive pipe with approximately 2’ of fall. That connects to my ram pump setup which is all 3/4” material including the two brass check valves. It then goes to a standard 100’ garden hose. The first check valve (vertical) is clamping shut, however it isn’t cycling open to shut. It did for about 1 minute then it just shuts and stops cycling. I also have the option of 1”-2” irrigation pipe I could run further up the creek if necessary b ..read more

I have been tasked with finding a real world example of a internal gear motor in use. My project requires a specific use with a video showing the internal gear motor working in the system. The problem is that I have had trouble finding any real world examples of an internal gear motor not being used as a pump. Any suggestions on would be great. submitted by /u/PassionateLifter [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Came into possession of these units, but have no clue what they're used for or worth. They are of Italian make from what I can gather, but didn't find much when researching online. This isn't my field so I'm totally lost. Any help would be appreciated. submitted by /u/Pasa-palo [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Plastic dome cover for display valve

We have a hydraulic unit at work for display that actuates pipeline valves. We have a 12” butterfly valve on it right now and I want to get some clear plastic domes to put on the valve to prevent people from putting their hand in while it’s turning. Does anyone know where you can buy these? It would look kind of like a big clear mixing bowl, and you put one on each side of the valve. I know it’s not a “hydraulics” question exactly, but any help appreciated. submitted by /u/Mooooork [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Hi guys at my work we have several machines which consist of a closed hydraulic system (I think?) each have a hand pump which is used to pressurise an accumulator - the accumulator consists of a floating piston with pre charged nitrogen on one side and oil on the other. Once brought to the correct pressure, it will operate 2 cylinder rods. The system also includes counter balance valves and flow control valves for both strokes of each cylinder. Also interlock valves to ensure cylinder 1 cannot be extended whilst cylinder 2 is extended etc. I am wondering how hard it would be to build a traini ..read more

Hey, i have an idea for a project that it would be great if someone could help out with. I want to design a hydraulic lift that can lift 4 tons, it would be run with a 18v battery and dc motor. Can someone help, how would i go about choosing motor? the size of hydraulic actuator needed? how much fluid and what type? what type/size pump? basically don't have any background in this area but am interested in learning and would appreciate any help submitted by /u/Antique_Caracal [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Do hydraulic systems built from all new parts, need ‘bleeding’?

I’m assembling a small lifting system, one double-acting ram, powered by a pump/motor unit from automotive convertible-roof, the pump manifold has internal relief valves, it just reverses polarity to raise or lower. My first version of this build, took a few seconds of motor spinning to build pressure, then it stutters as it extended the piston. Should I bleed the air out by momentarily operating the pump while one or both of the cylinder’s hose banjo-bolts are slightly loose? The pump has integrated reservoir with single refill hole (with sealing bolt). submitted by /u/BestEmu2171 [visit re ..read more

Hello all! I have here a convertible top cylinder from a Porsche 996. I am wondering how you guys would go about removing the clevis from it to slide on a new seal assembly and remove shaft for polishing? I have never seen the dimples like this, I do a lot of Mercedes tops and they don’t have this. I am unaware of how to pop it off on the Porsche. Mercedes just has strong loctite to melt off and they unscrew. Any ideas are appreciated, thanks ? submitted by /u/TheZachAttack69 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more
