Very rooky question here I know, but I have to ask it.
I understand that if I'm going to trade U.S stocks (as an Australian in Australia, using an Australian Broker) I need to purchase USD and the cost of the conversion is rather significant.
I noticed that in my HSBC account I can purchase USD as well, and the cost of doing so is significantly cheaper than the rates the brokers ask for. I gather it's a real money spinner for the brokers. Is it possible to purchase your USD...

I've been having trouble accessing Yahoo Finance in recent times, mainly after and before trading hours but sometimes during the day. I decided to try using a VPN to see if I was being Geo-blocked by Yahoo Finance, and sure enough I was.
As soon as I connect through the VPN I was able to access Yahoo Finance again.
Has anyone else had this experience?

This is a very rookie question but I have to ask it.
What news feed does everybody use for day trading Australian stocks? Is there some reputable news providers, paid, free, cheap/ expensive?
I am not sure who to go with. I do realise that Bloomberg provides a news feed but I'm sure it's horrendously expensive.
Any hints ..read more

There were a few Aussies in the sales pitch "information" session...
He spent three days "teaching" bull put spreads on SPY; leaving out soooo much information, failing to make his numbers add up etc. Not a great advertisment (IMHO) for his (expensive, IMHO) coaching services and software package... but there were a lot of people in that webinar too keen to part with their money!

I have recently discovered the value of podcasts as a way to get an outlook on sharemarkets, currencies and the global economy. I thought it would be a good idea to have a thread where people can share any sites offering good business podcasts. The more sources the merrier IMO.
Here are two i have found.

Hey everyone,
I've been researching different trading apps lately, and I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by the options out there.
I'm interested in starting to invest but want to make sure I choose the right platform.
Can anyone recommend a user-friendly trading app suitable for beginners?
I'm looking for something with a straightforward interface, low fees, and a good range of investment options.
Also, any tips or advice on what to look out for when selecting a trading app would be...

Hey everyone,
I've been contemplating investing in gold lately, but I'm a bit torn on whether it's the right move for me. On one hand, gold has historically been seen as a safe-haven asset, providing a hedge against inflation and economic uncertainty. Plus, it's a tangible asset that holds intrinsic value.
However, I've also heard some arguments against investing in gold, such as its lack of yield compared to other investments like stocks or bonds. There's also the consideration of storage...
