If there is one thing I have learned as a parent and am so passionate about empowering others to do, it's advocating for our children.  The traditional way we engaged with healthcare was one that saw us attend, listen and accept, but as the landscape of healthcare transitions, we see a shift in parents being more informed, questioning and working with our trusted healthcare professionals collaboratively to understand and agree on the best options and treatment plan for our little ones. As parents, we sometimes forget we know these tiny humans best and have so much insight, knowledge and i ..read more

This is my story about meeting my daughter 5 weeks too early. I became pregnant with my second child 9 months after my first. From the very beginning, I had a small feeling I wouldn’t make it to full term with my pregnancy. I had all the complete opposite symptoms of being pregnant with my son. My first pregnancy was perfect, and I delivered at 39 weeks. This time, I had been nauseated, fatigued and had varicose veins on both legs, which were incredibly painful. I tried to continue exercising regularly and working my regular shifts as a nurse. By 32 weeks pregnant, I came back home from ..read more

I wasn't going to open up about my birth story as it's quite raw and a lot to process. However, after hearing about a lot of women's stories who were not as lucky as we were, suffering the same condition, I've decided to raise awareness around this as it could save a future life.  Placental Abruption is when the placenta detaches from the uterus, ending the supply of nutrients, oxygen, and so on to the baby. This has a 1% chance of happening in pregnancy (it can happen at almost any stage).  I had a "normal" pregnancy with my final scan at 20 weeks and nothing to be concerned abou ..read more

On Monday 17/10/22 I was 41 + 4 weeks and was required to go have a check-up at the hospital to ensure all was tracking along well. My dates were a bit all over the place, and we had been given a total of 5 due dates. Myself and the baby were both tracking along normally, and we were able to go home. I had one of my final exams in the late afternoon. Whilst sitting for the exam, the baby's movements felt a lot more intense than normal but nothing concerning. Jarrod was seeing his brother and a few mates on this particular night as my exam was over 3 hours, and I wouldn't be done until later ..read more
