As a parent, finding the perfect swimwear for your children that strikes a balance between style, comfort, and sun protection can sometimes be a challenge. It’s been easy for my son – we purchased Villervalla swim trunks for him like 4 years ago from Modern Rascals, and never looked back. But girl swimsuits are a different beast and trying to find the right one that she’ll love and I’ll love, and that holds up has been a challenge. That’s why I want to share my experience with Current Tyed swimwear, a Canadian kids clothing brand I discovered for my shop – Nest & Sprout in Prince George, C ..read more

From Garden to Pantry: A Year of Growing and Preserving Green Beans
Simply Mom Bailey Blog

In the world of gardening, there are those who love every moment spent with their plants, and then there are those who do it out of necessity. This year, my goal was simple: grow enough green beans to keep our pantry stocked for the winter. In the past, I’d resorted to buying and canning 20-40 pounds of beans, which usually lasted us through the year. But this time, I was determined to rely on our garden alone. I’ve planted green beans int he past with much success – last year we took a garden hiatus with the new business but this year I figured I could do it. I planted about 16 poles, about 2 ..read more

Our Favorite Girls Snow Boots: Rainbow Unicorn Brumby
Simply Mom Bailey Blog

We’ve already purchased our snow boots for this winter, partly because I now own a children’s boutique in Prince George, and partly because my child grew over the summer. We went from a size 12 to as size 2 – which means we are now in the land of ‘youth snow boots’ or bigger kids sizes. This size between baby and adult is an interesting one and I find the selection for shoes shifts, not always for the better —– ps, if you haven’t visited the Bo Peep Boutique in Quesnel for children’s shoes, you should. They don’t have a website, but they have an amazing selection of shoes and I was totally imp ..read more

Yoto Player Review: Adventures in Sound and Storytelling

I’m in this funny place of should I write this review on my store website, or should I share these thoughts on my personal blog. For background, my name is Bailey and I own Nest & Sprout the children’s boutique in Prince George, BC. I did purchase the Yoto Player for my kids with my own money, but we also carry the product at our shop. You can choose where you buy your Yoto Player from Amazon, from Nest & Sprout, or directly with Yoto. —- We opted for the Yoto player shortly after deciding we needed an audio player for the kids. Screens were too addictive, but like can you even buy a ..read more

Selling my Cloth Diaper Stash
Simply Mom Bailey Blog
by Bailey
10M ago
It’s time to say goodbye to the cloth diaper stash that I’ve curated over the past 8 years for the Cloth Diaper Podcast and my personal blog Simply Mom Bailey. This stash holds so many memories and parting with it has felt heavy as I remember the good, the bad, and the interesting over the years.  Last year, the transition from cloth diaper education into retail ownership was much more sudden than I expected. In January, I was still dreaming of creating a course to support others in becoming Cloth Diaper Educators, and I was thinking of rewriting my book. I really did think I would be abl ..read more

Cut the Crap – a new book on cloth diapering
Simply Mom Bailey Blog

Today I’m excited to share that there is a  new cloth diaper book on the market written by Cecile!   As you might know, I wrote a book on cloth diapering a few years ago – and while this might feel like competition, to me it’s not. It’s a fantastic opportunity to expand our niche and offer more choices in learning about cloth diapering. Wouldn’t it be amazing to have an entire shelf about cloth diapering in a local library or book store? This book was a kickstarter project that has closed – look forward to seeing it come to market in the months to come. Cut The CR*P: Everyt ..read more

Last Tandem Nurse
Simply Mom Bailey Blog

This is probably the last time I tandem nursed. I don’t remember when or how the nursing relationship ended, it just fleeted away slowly and I kind of get the sad thinking about it right now. For most of my 4 years of breastfeeding, I wore the same nursing sleep bra until it pretty much fell apart. I’m such a weird shape – wide across the rib cage but tiny boobs like a 42C – that I didn’t even think I could find a nursing bra in my size that wasn’t just a soft cotton or miserably uncomfortable.  Anytime I bought a fancy bra from a fancy bra store, I would bring it home and never wear it b ..read more

Nest & Sprout is a Service

A friend stopped into the shop this weekend, and our conversation still sits with me. She had been an integral part of my early days in motherhood, and we chatted about how what the shop is not about the product but about the service.  And it’s that service of retail that I need to sit down and connect with each of my team members.  I really don’t want people to buy more stuff. But I really believe they need spaces to learn what to buy and how to use it.  We’ve lost a lot of informal sharing of knowledge in the worlds we live in – and with all my heart, we need that again.  ..read more

That’s too expensive
Simply Mom Bailey Blog

One of the day-to-day emotional drains is the money conversation – the “that’s expensive”, the “but Costco is cheaper”, the “but they’ll only wear it once” – and I know that my products at Nest & Sprout have value and worth their cost, but that doesn’t negate the slow wear on my emotional stage of being.  I was that mom who both splurged on boutiques and shopped the Carters clearance racks. I still do. Perhaps my most frustrating complaint about being a new parent is asking someone for a recommendation and only getting the cheapest suggestion – no I don’t want cheap. I want a quality ..read more

Burned out Millennial Moms
Simply Mom Bailey Blog
by Bailey

The thing about being a millennial woman in 2023 is that as young people we were told we could do it all – we would be that generation of women breaking glass ceilings AND raising little people.  So I find myself grieving that vision more often than I care to admit.  I had such dreams of being a mom and a lawyer, of creating significant change and being patient with my kids – all of which feels too crumble each day.  This fresh 48 photo reminds me of how I once thought it would be an easy transition into a career when Anna hit kindergarten – but it’s not really.
