If I’m honest not too much bothers me
Well, maybe a few things
My other passion is the natural world
The fact that due to ongoing declines over the last 40 years, we are now the most nature depleted country in Europe
That every time a new diet is invented
It is supposed to be the next best thing
The reason WHY they all work is never explained
How one fundermental thing is what they all have in common
That you don’t need to miss food groups or follow a complicated system

Any time I’m in a social setting and there is food
And I get the question
“What do you do for work?”
I have stopped telling them the truth
I will get comments like “you won’t be eating what’s here then”
Or “how do I lose weight?”
I’ve learned they never put the info I give them to use
Or worse I could be tucking into something
And then suddenly I hear
“You shouldn’t be eating that”
“Thought your body was a temple”
Or I get people struggling to get results say “I know someone who can eat what they like”
Because they saw them eating something ‘off the healthy menu”

Science tell us after age 30 things start going downhill
Health and shape start to decline
Muscle starts to decrease
Which effects your resting metabolism
Which means if not long before you maintained weight
Now because your body burns less calories
Steady fat gain will be taking place
Gaining fat puts a strain on the body
Health and joints
But is it too late to reverse it?
No!

I’m sure you are a bit weary of trying to lose weight and improve health by now
You’ve tried so many times
Maybe I’m yet another voice saying I have the answers
Maybe you have settled
Decided for you it isn’t possible
Your metabolism
Hormonal balance
Age
Genetics
Medical issue (have that checked if you think that’s the case)
Actually it’s none of those things
It’s worse
It will keep you stuck forever
If you let it
It’s a belief issue
Once you believe it can’t be done

Even though I’m a coach even I realise that calories are not very interesting
No one gets excited when I can tell them roughly how many calories are in a food
How many calories are burned in a particular exercise for 20 minutes
It’s a great conversation ender
But it does rule how much body fat you have
And therefore your health risk
And how you feel
If you have tried and failed to lose before
You just haven’t created a calorie balance for long enough, that’s all
The problem is ingested calories are underestimated
And burned ones are over estimated

When I was younger
When I first started going to nightclubs
I always had to take ID with me
I remember an annoying night where I was asked for ID and my younger by a couple of years friend
Just walked straight in
Yes maybe now I’m feeling better about it all

In my experience as coach
There is a point in the journey to get results
Where it gets easier
Smoother sailing
So to speak
But very few get to that point
If you are reading this
Then likely you are stuck
Not changing
Or not knowing where to start

if you exercise a few times a week regularly
Then that’s great and you are doing better than most
This on its own is a healthy habit
But unlikely to get you the results you want
Previously when a lot of what I did was taking people through
A personalised exercise session
Tailoring it to their needs
Some would get amazing results
Some wouldn’t change very much

The gyms and health clubs have been open for a few weeks now
Have you been back?
I have ventured back a few times
The first time I was a bit nervous
More for the reason that it had been a long time
The advice I was giving was start steady
But how steady?
I needn’t have worried
Which just goes to show
Gyms are optional
Now I have a little bit of equipment, so I’m lucky

Didn’t really hear it mentioned at the gyms I have worked at
Not mentioned anywhere in the media
My mum is the only one who knows it at her weight loss group
Which is a shame
