Fast Fashion threatening our planet

Cheap mass produced fashion aka ‘fast fashion’ is the world’s main polluter with 10% of the world’s total carbon footprint being derived from the business of apparel, compared with 2% for the entire aviation industry.  Apparel is also the second-largest polluter of fresh water globally. As a personal stylist, my role is to help guide and curate wardrobes that reflect my client’s personality, lifestyle, body shape and budget.   It’s about ensuring the wardrobes I curate are timeless, and of a quality level that will last the distance both practically and style-wise.   M ..read more

Dressing for the office isn’t only about presenting the best ‘you’, it is also a reflection of the company you work for or for your own business/brand. First impressions are extremely important, so whether you are trying to impress a manager for that new role or you are starting your own business and want to stand out from the crowd, your wardrobe choices need to hit the mark and reflect your brand values. I’m lucky in that I have had a solid history of working for large corporates, including banks, finance, legal, as well as small business. This has given me great insight to how the various o ..read more

Fashion Trends for Summer 2020
FASHION FAIRGROUND

The trends from the recent international Fashion Shows trickle down to what is hot on the High St for summer 2020. We don’t have to follow trends strictly however taking a cue here and there from any of these more global trends will put you in good stead for a well considered wardrobe. HANDCRAFTED - here you will see a more artisanal look, with a more folk-like aesthetic. Think crochet, lace, open knits and perhaps some embroidery. GLAM/HIGH SHINE - taking cues from the 90’s in sleek and slinky dresses that have a high shine vibe. FLORAL - flowers are still around, not much to add here apart f ..read more

My shared children's bedroom

It was great to see my children’s room featured in this Spring issue of OhBaby magazine. Styling a space in the home is very much like styling the body. First you need to start with an end vision/look in mind. Think about what this vision entails from a style perspective. Is it fun, quirky, minimal, bright, traditional? What are the practicalities of the space in terms of how you want the room to function? Children’s rooms are a nightmare for collecting clutter and toys, so thinking about storage is vital. Think about the way the room receives the light - is it north or south facing? This can ..read more

GoTs - Danerys, I want that stunning coat!

We are only a few episodes into the last series of Game of Thrones and I’m loving what Dany’s rocking. In particular the structured fur coat. WOW. I love structure through the shoulders and waist. Perfect for a dainty body shape like Emilia Clarke. GoTs Head Costume Designer, Michele Clapton explains that the coat is made of “fake leather strips, a long pile high-quality fake fur and a short pile white fake fur, and towards the hem we used rabbit fur. It is all stitched together in strips and then mounded onto a corset-style base.” Such detail and thought in the design also taking into conside ..read more

Located on New North Road in Kingsland is 14 oz, a shop dedicated to jeans and who stocks top brands such as Rollas, Neuw and A Brand. Two pairs for $140 is their current deal or one pair for $80.   Such a great price!  I recently tried on several pairs (poor guy in the shop!) and decided on a wide legged, mum style -ish kind by Scandinavian brand Neuw. From skinnies to high waisted and wide legged, there is a good range to choose from.   They don't have a website but a Facebook page here Make sure it's on your go-to list ..read more

Stylish clothing for the plus size woman
FASHION FAIRGROUND
by Stacey Gillies

We all know New Zealand hasn't the range of fashion that other countries get to enjoy.   But with online shopping and international shipping available to us we should all be able to access stylish and affordable clothing when we need to.   This also applies for those of you who are plus size. Locally we have the higher end such as Carpenters Daughter, Zebrano and Magazine.  Some brands like Kowtow go up to XL and due to their unstructured design can work well for larger sizes.  Of course there are the lower tier brands coming out of Farmers or Ezibuy. Internationa ..read more
