Growing Up With YA

I sit here before you as 24-year-old YA reader. I have been an avid reader my whole life — a cliché which I’m told is not something to bring up in a job interview. Nevertheless, it’s true. I remember nights falling asleep with a book on my chest, warnings from my mother not to stay up too late reading, and teachers startling me back to reality once reading time was over. Books have been a huge part of my life; they have defined my personality, helped me through difficult times and most of all, taught me some incredibly important lessons. And the novels I read the most? YA. Epic Reads tells us ..read more

The End.

Reflecting on the completion of his novel, David Copperfield, Charles Dickens wrote, “I do not find it easy to get sufficiently far away from this Book … my mind is so divided between pleasure and regret — pleasure in the achievement of a long design, regret in the separation from many companions — that I am in danger of wearying the reader whom I love, with personal confidences, and private emotions.” No doubt the author will always feel this more than the reader, yet I think everyone who has considered themselves a bookworm at heart has felt at least an inkling of Dickens’ sentiment. The Books That Defined YA

Is it any wonder why YA books have become cultural touchstones for minds both young and old? YA can at the same time be fun and light-hearted while also profound and rich with meaning. When looking at the wide scope of these books, it becomes apparent that many authors have left a mark on the YA movement. After nearly a decade of covering these books, we asked ourselves which ones helped define and shape the landscape? That’s a big question to tackle. You’re likely to get different answers depending on who you ask. It would be wrong to claim that our answer is the definitive answer. After all ..read more

A goodbye to Bookstacked

I started writing for Bookstacked in 2014. (Well, more accurately, I started writing for 7th Page in 2014 — for what it’s worth, I will always love that name we used to go under.) I was 20-years-old and had never written online content before, but Saul was willing to give someone like me a chance. Someone who had never had many people to talk to about the books he loved, and someone who was desperate to write. For eight years it’s been an honour and a privilege to write for, and represent, this website. It has afforded me the opportunity to do things that I had always dreamed of doing growing ..read more

After the dramatic events of The Atlas Six, I was desperate to find out what happened next with Olivie Blake’s characters in The Atlas Paradox. From the Blurb: The world’s best magicians were offered a choice. Could they kill one of their number for limitless power? For most, the decision seemed easy. Then everything went wrong. When Esther sets off to rescue her son, she stumbles onto a larger conspiracy that will impact her and her family’s future in The Keeper’s Six by Kate Elliot. From the Blurb: There are terrors that dwell in the space between worlds. It’s been a year since Esther set foot in the Beyond, the alien landscape stretching between worlds, crossing boundaries of space and time.
