"So what does that really mean, sustainable gardening?" is a question I get a lot. Well let me start with an image of your garden. Now imagine it totally revamped. New hard landscaping, new plants, fancy seating, the lot. That is garden design - right? Try to imagine this garden in winter. When I started off in 2014, I envisaged this patchwork of gardens that are that little bit more sustainable. Collectively, they would support biodiversity, wellbeing and regenerate nature. What I have come to realise is that for this to really happen, I need to look beyond garden design and landscaping. I need to look at all the people that use these gardens. Their knowledge and skills to respond to their garden sustainably is as important as creating the garden.
