How are the career aspects in comparison? I'm planning to do my masters in Electronics. I'm interested in IC design. I've already applied to a few universities in Europe. My question- Is a high ranked university in europe better or a mid-ranked university in USA a better option? Few points- 1)I'm not planning to get a PhD later, but I'm interested in research and plan to do a good thesis. I plan on doing a job after graduation. 2)I know university rankings doesn't matter so to be more specific - the universities in Europe are- TU delft, Netherlands and KU Leuven, Belgium. The universities in ..read more

Hello everybody I'm designing a dual stage ota, I'm puzzled at how to design the transistor M6. It's Vgs is already fixed because of the Vgs of M3, which is also Vds of M4 approximately. This makes M6, once you choose its W and L a current source, but M7 is a current source too, so you get a common mode problem at the output. I'm also using the Gm/Id method, I fail to select a good W and L for M6 starting from the Vgs given by the previous stage. Can somebody point me in the right direction, how do you guys solve this problem? One of my ideas was to add a source degeneration resistor in t ..read more

Hello, I was offered a PhD in analog design and I'm in the middle of deciding what to do of my life, so I wanted to hear other people experiences on the topic. How was your PhD? Would you do it again if given the chance or would you do anything different? Was it really helpful for your job as an analog designer? I always considered the possibility of doing a PhD and I've been working towards entering this field for literally the past 5 years of university, but now that I have the chance I'm having some last minute doubts. Mainly the fact that I will be earning a lot less and 3 years is a long ..read more

Intellectual sharpness to be successful at PhD design role?

In analog IC design and electronics research, how important of a role does intellectual quickness play compared to accumulated theoretical knowledge, endurance, and experience? I am a college senior that excels in individual ECE coursework where there's no time limit -- but tend to think slower than peers on group projects and assignments (e.g. slower reaction time). In other words, I feel that I process and learn new information at an average pace. Given my average intelligence but high endurance, is pursuing an IC design PhD advisable, or should I focus on a MS and gaining industry experien ..read more

Hello! Any advice on providing a bias on this pseudoresistor topology? I need a biasing scheme to keep the gate and bulk potentials constant w respect to the sources: https://preview.redd.it/bowr4i8k49wc1.png?width=568&format=png&auto=webp&s=d147e68f3277871f9f66acb56bf5afa0e1e8bc9a Which ideally gives me the following resistance response: https://preview.redd.it/9hyjzwst49wc1.png?width=764&format=png&auto=webp&s=995ff2b6888c5e3e8615debfe523116f4fb4e500 I tried this: https://preview.redd.it/panchfa059wc1.png?width=541&format=png&auto=webp&s=5c5637f2c644a ..read more
