Luxembourg-inspired Pierogi

I love cookbooks, in fact, I am the proud owner of an ever-expanding library of cookbooks. So, when I got invited to the ‘Eating Greens’ cookbook launch in Brussels, I had to go! The book is a compilation of 50 recipes provided by Green MEPs, so the recipes are very international and varied. Our Luxembourg Green MEP, Tilly Metz, has contributed a recipe for Pierogi. These Polish stuffed dumplings don’t seem very much related to Luxembourg at first… but Tilly explains in the book that the recipe comes from a Polish friend of hers, who cooked them for her, and that she has fallen in love with t ..read more

Avi’s Blueberry Cream Cheese Rolls

In the summer of 2023, I spent a week at my friends’, Avi and Toffe’s, beautiful summer house in Denmark. It was supposed to be a summer holiday but the weather turned out to be cold and rainy for most of the time, so we ended up spending lots of time indoors. So Avi did what he does best: he baked – and I filmed reels of him baking. Every day, Avi came up with another gorgeous cake, cookie or breakfast bake – and my sister Christine and I were more than happy to eat them all! The absolute highlight was these divine blueberry cream cheese rolls which Avi had been perfecting for a while. And I ..read more

Coconut Lime Shortbread

I think most of us are ‘cookied out’ at the beginning of the year – I certainly have experienced a sort of Christmas cookies hangover in January… Nevertheless, sometimes you still want a cookie with your cup of tea and these coconut lime shortbreads really hit the spot. Zingy lime and fiery candied ginger bring a bright freshness to these buttery cookies – just what the doctor ordered on a grey January day! Marmorkuch

Marmorkuch is one of those cakes that every Luxembourger must have grown up with! I vividly remember eating it during my childhood at most play-dates with my friends. We would come back home from building huts, riding our rollerblades or causing general mischief and find a Marmorkuch waiting for us in the kitchen (be it at mine or theirs – everyone used to make marble cake back in the day). This specific Marmorkuch is not as dry as the classic version. In fact, it is super buttery with a crispy crust around – just the way I like it! The perfect carrot cake

Ah, what a classic! Carrot cake is one of the most popular cakes amongst all my friends, and I totally get it: a moist sponge packed with cinnamon and walnuts for a bit of texture, paired with a heavenly cream cheese frosting. I mean, what’s not to love about this? I’ve been making this cake for well over a decade and you will have seen it in a cupcake version in my previous books. The recipe remains unchanged, as it’s really the most damn perfect carrot cake in my world! This recipe was filmed for RTL Gusto and aired in March 2024. Want to make something cute for your Easter lunch this year? How about this Easter Pasta Nest! Made with linguini from Le Moulin, this nest packs in smoky bacon, broad beans and pistachios, and gets topped with little quail eggs. The flavours really do taste like springtime and it will definitely be a showstopping started or main for Easter. I don’t know how else to describe this cookie, but for me it tastes like a warm hug on a grey January day. Deeply buttery, not too sweet, with nutty pecan notes and just a hint of spice – this is the cookie I turn to when I’m in need of a quick comfort bake. Brioche Bretzel

Luxembourg has lots of quaint traditions, but above all, Bretzelsonndeg is one really lovely example. Every year, on the third Sunday of Lent, we celebrate ‘Bretzel Sunday’. On this day, a man should offer his beloved a sweet pretzel. If she accepts, she in return will have to give her man a chocolate egg for Easter. If she refuses, she gives him a basket – hence the Luxembourgish expression ‘hie krut de Kuef’ (he got the basket) if you get dumped… In leap years, the tradition reverses. Then, the woman is due to offer a bretzel in return for an Easter egg. This year, Bretzelsonndeg falls on t ..read more

Those who know me well know that I have a penchant for anything chocolate orange. I just love the combination. So, I had to infuse my favourite chewy chocolate cookies with orange zest one day – and damn, it tastes really fine! For those who are not so fond of this combo: Omit the orange zest and play with any kinds of chocolate chips, nuts and spices to create your dream chewy chocolate chip cookie! Saffron prawn pasta

Ah, what to cook for Valentine’s day. Well, let me say, this prawn pasta dish is just perfect! Juicy prawns and crayfish, flaky cod, cauliflower and fennel in a saffron white wine broth – paired with a new pasta shape from Le Moulin. It makes a portion for 4, but I usually freeze half the sauce – like that I can enjoy this fantastic dish twice, with only once the work!
