Ottawa’s Cooper Brothers are celebrating their 50th anniversary as a band with a concert at Meridian Centrepointe Theatre on Friday. Formed in 1974 by Dick and Brian Cooper with their late friend, Terry King, the country-rockers cranked out a handful of hits — including The Dream Never Dies, Show Some Emotion and I'll Know Her When I See Her — and toured with the likes of the Doobie Brothers and Charlie Daniels before their label folded and they broke up. Nellie Green keeps a game-used Team Canada goalie stick displayed on her bedroom wall. It is signed by her favourite player and the stick’s former owner, PWHL Ottawa goalie Emerance Maschmeyer. Nellie, 13, used her own money, $250 of it, to successfully bid on the stick as part of a fundraiser at a December tournament in Montreal hosted by four-time Olympic gold-medallist Caroline Ouellette.
