You may have dined in at Dickson’s Highroad trying various items for their brunch and all day menu. Well get ready, Highroad have launched their dinner service. We are invited to dine in and check it out. There’s champagne and cocktails floating around. I ask for something non-alcoholic and am happy when they have some […] Read more... Note: I was invited to dine at Antica Ricetta (the first time) and paid on the second occasion. All opinions are my own. Tucked away along a little alleyway at the Manuka shops is Antica Ricetta. It has been there for years and I do remember trying it at least a decade ago and not […] Read more... The post Antica Ricetta appeared first on FoodPornJournal ..read more

Note: I was invited to dine in at Kivotos, but all opinions expressed are my own I haven’t really had Greek food before and have never visited the country. I’m very excited when Kivotos restaurant in Braddon treats us to the Share the Love set menu dinner. Drinks-wise, we follow the theme of the night and Mr FPJ has The Med cocktail with melon, vodka, basil, lime juice and olives. I try the Epsa blood orange soda which isn’t too sweet or sour. First up, we receive grilled pita bread with three dips. The white cod with garlic lemon is my favourite dip – very unique and tasty. I try not to fill ..read more

High Tea at Louis

My friends and I enjoy a wonderful high tea at Louis in Barton. As one of my favourite restaurants (see previous dinner post here), I can’t help but go in with high expectations. Our server asks which type of high tea we’re after – traditional, with sparkling, or the upgraded free-flowing sparkling option. We all opt for the traditional high tea with unlimited TWG tea and coffee at $80 per person. The list of 7 TWG teas isn’t extensive but the traditional favourites are all there. Two of us choose the French Earl Grey and our server suggests we share one pot to save room on the table. When the ..read more

The Med

The Med opened a couple of months ago in Barton. As the name suggests, it offers modern mediterranean cuisine like dips and pide, saganaki, marinated sardines, lamb kofte, za’atar fries, and various items from the oven and grill. We aren’t hungry enough to do the banquet option (at $75 a head), so order a few dishes from the a la carte to share. The BBQ octopus ($25) with harissa dressing is the only meze plate ordered. It turns out to be my favourite dish of the night. The octopus is cooked to perfection (no rubbery tentacles here) and is a more generous meaty portion that expected. It has a ..read more

Pomegranate

Pomegranate is a restaurant I’ve walked past over the last decade and I finally booked a table to visit with a friend. It’s lovely inside with hints of Turkey everywhere from the lanterns, tiles and eye. The menu is Modern Australian with Turkish influence. We’re not hungry enough for a banquet, and we skip any bread and dips. For entrees, my friend tries the duck ravioli ($28) with onion, pine nut, blackcurrant, pomegranate sauce and carrot puree. Only 3 pieces of ravioli though they are large and fat with stuffing, savoury yet mildly sweet. I love the addition of pine nut so that it’s not to ..read more

Beltana Farm

My friends and I booked into Beltana Farm, the newest restaurant open in Pialligo. No it doesn’t replace the former Pialligo Estate, it’s at a completely different address. I don’t even remember what was here before this place. I’m a bit worried about parking as I drive in as I know there are roadworks along Beltana Farm. Luckily, there’s a big carpark on the premises just inside the gate. Walk past the bookable yurts and cottages (staycation anyone?), and you’ll find the big restaurant building at the very end. There is a tasting menu ($110 per person) and the a la carte menu. Drinks wise, I ..read more

Ikko

Located in Grazier Lane in Belconnen, you can find Japanese restaurant Ikko. There are plenty of tables inside and QR codes on each table for easy ordering and payment. I try the curry yaki udon ($22) because 1) I love Japanese curry, and 2), it looks so different to others I’ve tried. The medium-sized low bowl arrives and it’s the first time I’ve seen this dish look like whipped cream. It is super aerated and fluffy in a yellow tinge from the curry powder. The slightly sweeter curry is mixed with mushrooms and kind of reminds me of a stroganoff as the whipped creamy foam melts. An interesting ..read more

Botswana Butchery Canberra

Hailing from New Zealand, with restaurants in Sydney and Melbourne, Botswana Butchery has opened in Canberra (which I later find out was with a little nudge from our ACT Chief Minister). My friend and I try it out for lunch as part of birthday week. Pull on the chopping knife handles of the restaurant door (they must mean business!) and the interior is plush and spacious with large comfy chairs, hues of tan and teal, and a few little hidden spaces and intimate dining rooms. The lunch a la carte menu is split into raw bar items with a caviar service, charcuterie, entrees and light mains, the b ..read more

Chop Chop

Note: I was invited to dine in, however all opinions are my own. We headed to Japanese fusion restaurant Chop Chop in Civic for a quick weekday lunch and seriously enjoyed all the dishes. We start with the prawn rice toast. But this isn’t your traditional prawn toast – think creamy prawn salad with cucumber, celery and mayo on a deliciously thick rice base. I can’t quite describe the base, but it’s like a very condensed sticky rice turned into toast in bite sized pieces. I could easily polish off all 6 pieces in the serve! Definitely give this one a go. Next, we try the hiramasa kingfish sash ..read more
