But this is about to change, with Israel poised to be the next country to introduce a legal adult-use cannabis framework. According to the draft law, Israelis over the age of 21 will be allowed to use cannabis and to purchase it at designated stores. Smoking in public places, however, will be forbidden although if you have been to Tel Aviv, you would have smelled the cannabis lon ..read more

COVID-19 Impact In the first half of 2020, CBD companies are experiencing a loss in revenue due to store closures and consumer concerns about Coronavirus and their finances. Shelter-at-home policies paused hemp-derived CBD (cannabidiol) sales through many brick-and-mortar retailers that were temporarily shuttered in March. While grocery, drug, and health food stores remained open as essential businesses during this time, other retailers selling CBD products such as vape shops and CBD specialist retailers either closed temporarily during the crisis or only offered curbside pickup and delivery ..read more

I am a pharmacist. When I studied pharmaceutical science at Sydney University 24 years ago we were not taught about the Endocannabinoid System (ECS). We were not taught that the ECS was discovered in 1992 by Lumir Hanus at the Hebrew University or that the Endocannabinoid System is the largest receptor system in the body and is responsible for cellular communications. As we now know from the research of Professor Raphael Mechoulam and Lumir Hanus at Hebrew University, our bodies produce a range of endocannabinoids, and we know that the phytocannabinoids found in the cannabis plant and actually ..read more

What a stressful time this is for all of us.  People across the globe have been affected by a new, severe, physical illness making the headlines. Perhaps the constant daily changes we’re all experiencing may take a greater toll on us all than the risk a novel illness may pose.  Where some will be negatively affected by physical pathology, the overwhelming majority of us are being negatively affected by the stress and anxiety that we are taking on because of the coronavirus. Mass quarantines are something recent generations have never had to deal with before.  Because of quaranti ..read more

When Rylie Maedler addresses an audience there’s rarely a dry eye left in the room. By the end of her story, Rylie has gotten under your skin, into your heart and settled in your memory. When I was at Pharmacy School at Sydney University, more than 20 years ago, we learned the pharmaceutical and clinical sciences ranging from the design, synthesis, formulation, dispensing and testing of drugs and the clinical and social aspects of pharmacy. In practical terms, we studied how pharmaceuticals interact, how to accurately measure and dispense medications, advise patients on effective protocols and adverse events, what to do and not to do when using specific medications.  We did not learn how to dispense medications in a pandemic.  It never occurred to the University to include th ..read more
