To welcome in the new month of February and in celebration of Valentines Day, we are running a 'self love' half day retreat in our newly appointed Dome.  The retreat will be hosted by Adele, who is a vision of radiance and positive energy and has a background in horticulture!  The retreat starts with a cacao ceremony, which is a spiritual ritual that revolves around the consumption of ceremonial grade cacao. In this case, the ceremony is in a group situation, to facilitate connection, healing and self love.  This ancient ritual originates from Mayan and Aztec traditions and has ..read more

Happy New Year! Whilst everything here at the nursery is a little slower in January, we thought we’d take the opportunity to write a quick update on everything we are working on here at Lime Cross and a recap on what's happened in 2022. Vineyard Update Last year saw some big milestones completed; firstly, we started in 2021 moving conifers into the retail area, disposing of dead plants, moving slabs, stakes, cars, and irrigation from the fields so they were ready for us to then start the ground preparations for the fields to be turned into our Vineyard. This started at the end of 2021 and carr ..read more

Although its lovely to have a varied selection of plants in the garden, sometimes to create a more dramatic effect it is worth considering repetitive planting, as this can draw your eye through the garden creating rhythm and a backdrop to which you can add colourful perennials and shrubs. Structure in a garden, a bit like life can also create a calming effect in the garden making a more tranquil space. For example you often see groups of tall conifers placed together in Mediterranean gardens creating a warm, peaceful and private space. Groups of tall upright tress with uniform shapes and habit ..read more

Golden Conifers great for warm winter colour in the garden.
Lime Cross

Golden conifers are a bit like marmite you either love them or hate them. Of course here at Lime Cross Nursery we love golden conifers as there are so many inventive and modern ways they can be planted within a garden landscape. Why wouldn’t you want beautiful golden or bronze tones throughout the garden all year round especially in the winter when everything else has died back. Back in the 70’s and 80’s when the island bed conifer and heather gardens were at there height, and Lawsons were being sold by the 1000’s you can understand why they might have got a bad rap. But that was then and you ..read more

Finding a plant that has a natural blue colour in nature is very rare - nothing else in the plant world produces striking blue tones quite like the needles of blue conifer varieties. With the added bonus of displaying their blue colour all year round in the garden unlike the few flowering blue plants. From bright powdery blue spruces and firs to the more subtle blue green pines, conifers go from one end of the blue colour spectrum to the other. Their strong structure and attractive shapes are a real feature throughout the year thanks to their unique colours. They also create a serene look ..read more

Conifers especially Leyland have not always been the most popular conifer over the years as without maintenance they can quickly become to big and out of control in small gardens. But with the right maintenance and care they can be a great asset to a garden, giving privacy and framing your garden with beautiful evergreen foliage providing a dense screening all year round.  To keep a conifer hedge looking its best we recommend pruning yearly which should be done on a dry day in spring or mid-summer to prevent disease and dieback, a little tip - for best results pruning on a dry day applies ..read more
