21st century women changing the world As International Women’s Day gets closer, I would like to talk about a handful of women who are currently changing the world, or at least trying really hard! There are many anonymous women doing this, but it’s always great to see some of them doing it publicly, giving voice to those ones who don’t have it. In this post, I’d like to tell you about Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the youngest congresswoman elected in the US; Greta Thunberg, the teenage environmentalist challenging everyone’s views; Amal Clooney, a Lebanese-British barrister who specialises in Hum ..read more

International Women’s Day On March 8th, we celebrate International Women’s Day all over the world; but what is International Women’s Day, and why do we celebrate it? This entry will help you understand the importance of such a day!   What is International Women’s Day? This day celebrates all women: mothers, daughters, sisters, doctors, wives, scientists, carers… Their sexuality doesn’t matter, as long as their gender is female: heterosexual, cis, lesbian, trans, gender fluid, black, white, Latinx… None of that is important. The only thing that matters is their impact on society, economy, polit ..read more

This week we’re celebrating Women’s Week. As usual, our students had the chance to vote for their preferred theme the week before. Monday Our Monday routine did not change this week: we had Homework Club with Lorna, and a special presentation for new students with Malachy, followed by a visit to a pub. This week, we had a nice group of new students, so they had a great time exploring Oxford! Tuesday Always a big day at EC Oxford! We always offer the students the possibility of getting to know each other with a big social event. This week, we’re going ice skating. We’re very lucky to have the ..read more

Hello everybody! This week, we are all about stories, so tune in to learn more! Monday On Monday, we had our usual timetable. Lorna ran her Homework Club as smoothly as usual. Remember, you can always attend this club for 5 minutes, or for 60 minutes. It is a great opportunity to ask those questions you don’t have an answer for. Every Monday, Malachy takes care of our new students showing them a couple of presentations to help them get to know the city of Oxford and to show them how we learn. He then takes the new students, and usually a bunch of current students, to a nearby pub or café. Thi ..read more

Philipp joined the EC Oxford team a couple of weeks ago and in this post, he answers a few questions for us to learn a little bit more about him. Keep reading to find out more!   What did you do before you came to EC Oxford? In July 2019 I made my A-Levels (Abitur) and graduated from high school in Germany. After school, I decided to take part in an assessment centre of one of Germany’s leading Law Schools in Hamburg. When I finally got the confirmation that I was accepted, I decided to take a gap year before starting my law studies in September 2020. The university was very helpful and reserv ..read more

3rd February at EC Oxford Diversity Week Hello everyone! The first week of February is over and here at EC Oxford, we had a blast! Sadly, Australia is suffering their worst summer season, with bushfires rapidly going through their natural parks. These fires have claimed wildlife territory, the koala population has decreased in more than a third, and firefighters are working harder than ever. At EC Oxford, we have decided that February will be our month to give back. Throughout the month of February, we are going to hold different activities to raise money to help WWF, a charity which is helpi ..read more

Do not miss Oxford’s Cowley Road

The Cowley Road   If you are in Oxford, the Cowley Road is a place not to miss.   Food The Cowley Road is one of the most ethnically diverse places is Oxford, with the best Lebanese restaurants, Le Kesh and Pomegranate, to name a few. The Turkish restaurants are a popular stop, too. I would highly recommend Antep Kitchen for a classy date night; Bodrum Restaurant is open late, so it is ideal for when you are leaving the bars! Drinks You can find yourself in the ‘Secret Garden’ of Café Tarifa, it feels like a completely different place, full of palm trees and beautifully decorated scenes. You ..read more

I was in charge in of supporting students for their national GCSE and A-level exams and organising trips and exchanges to Germany. Q: What is your role here in EC Oxford?
