Hey there! It’s been a long time since I sat down to write on this blog. But today, I decided to take a break from everything and do something I really enjoy – writing and painting. Of late, life has been pretty crazy, dealing with all sorts of unexpected things. You know those phases that come out of nowhere and make you feel how little control we have over this thing called life? Well, I’ve been going through one such tough phase once again – dealing with personal emergencies and trying to cope with grief. I’ll share more about it in my next post as I’m still trying to come to term ..read more

Listen: Children’s Book Review

A good storyteller knows how to tell complex stories in simple words. This is exactly what I felt after reading Listen by Tatsuya Fushimi and Britney Vu. Empowering, beautiful, and meaningful. Also very relevant for today’s time when the world is full of unnecessary noise. We all have both positive and negative voices within us. The positive and negative voices in our minds battle daily. Listen is a beautifully illustrated children’s picture book about distinguishing the positive and negative voices in the mind from the voice in the heart. It tells us not to forget the voice of our hearts in t ..read more

Plenty Of Love To Go Around: Children’s Book Review

Loved it! What a beautiful book with a beautiful message, relevant not only for children but for adults too.  Plenty of love to go around by Emma Chichester Clark is based on the adventures of her real-life dog. Plum the dog loves being her family’s special one. So when Binky the cat moves in next door and everyone showers him with attention, Plum feels left out. Cats are not her favorite thing! Binky follows Plum everywhere, even to the park, which everyone knows is not for cats. And on top of that, Binky is so annoyingly clever. Is he the new Special One? Or is ..read more

A beautiful book about dealing with the anxiety of a new school and a new environment. Loved it.  I also loved that it’s a bilingual book, making it a wonderful read for both Spanish and English-speaking kids. But what I loved the most is that this book highlights the importance of visual communication amongst kids.  It tells us – where word fails, a picture speaks. And a picture can speak louder than words! Anybody who is a regular reader of this blog knows how much I believe in the power of expression through arts and visual storytelling for kids. I love that this story indirectly ..read more

Amma, Tell Me About Ganesha – Children’s Book Review

Informative and engaging. Like all other books in the “Amma, Tell Me” series by Bhakti Mathur. As the name suggests, “Amma, Tell Me About Ganesha!” is the story of Ganesha. Klaka and Kiki, two siblings, are curious about the Ganesh Chaturthi festival and they ask their Amma (mother) about it. Amma narrates the magical story of his birth, why he is the first god to be worshipped before embarking on any new venture, how he fought Shiva and got his elephant face.  Colorful, and attractive, this one is a great read for kids below 8 years age group. It tells the story in a language that’s easi ..read more
