Location, Location, Location
Balancing lifestyle and the environment without compromising authentic Craftsman style
The Plan
Delightful homeowners wanted their cake – and eat it too. Long term residents of the location, they desired a new home optimized for the location, their lifestyle and easy on the environment.
A big question mark was around what to do with the original house that still had some life in it. It was also very important to create an authentic Craftsman home that would add character to their neighbourhood they had loved for so many years.

Belgravia Green
A hard working, net zero energy home in an older neighbourhood producing energy for its owners, now and long into the future.
Net Zero Energy Video
Belgravia Green Virtual Tour
The Plan
We challenged ourselves to build a net zero energy home in a mature neighbourhood at a time when this concept was virtually unheard of. This project included three homes on three adjoining lots. Two of the homes were built as envisioned by the owners of those lots, but Belgravia Green was our show home, which gave us the freedom to try out new and innovative ideas.
We wanted to achieve th ..read more

The Prairie Lookout
The asymmetrical design and the clean lines of this modern home make a bold impact on its surroundings.
The Plan
The objective was to design and build a stylish sanctuary nestled within a thickly forested ravine edge. A dramatically sloped roof would create a highly modernized exterior and allow for additional light to pool into the house throughout the day despite the heavily treed surroundings. The surrounding trees made it seem to the owners that what they were really building was a “tree-house”, more connected with the trees above than the ground below. The eye-cat ..read more

Ultra-efficient multi-family home replaces eyesore and adds character to mature neighbourhood.
The Plan
A dilapidated single family home needed to be replaced with a forward-thinking solution. The challenge was to preserve the character of a mature neighbourhood while optimizing a prime location.

The Build
Subtle details make this home feel much more elegant than a typical multi-family home. The tasteful interior materials convey a sophi ..read more

The Haven
The asymmetrical design and the clean lines of this modern home make a bold impact on its surroundings.
The Plan
When we met the homeowners we were greeted by their kind-hearted personalities. They wanted a space that aligned with how they live and functioned in their space. They loved their home, the location and wanted to bring new life to the interior! We were up for the challenge and wanted to create a space than not only reflected their personalities but pushed the boundaries of the existing structure.
Taking a fresh look at the space, we wanted to create something that com ..read more

Beauvert
The Beauvert is inspired by Federal architecture, popular in the Eastern United States during the early 1800s. This choice of style is rarely seen in Western North America as it pre-dates prairie construction. It required special attention to the historical details of the style so as to reproduce it as faithfully as possible.
The Plan
When the owners saw photos of this Federal-style home in an American publication, they immediately fell in love. They searched for a partner who would not only build them their magazine-worthy vision but make sure that the style of the home would al ..read more

The Ardour
Accessibility considerations include a rough-in for a future elevator.
The Plan
The family originally grew up in Belgravia but members moved to different locations, this provided a way for them to reunite and live together again. The eye-catching peak of this home while beautiful, at the time of the build was one of our most challenging architectural designs and easily still one of our favourites!
This family is a pillar in the community and part of their motivation was to show good stewardship, increase density in a responsible manner.
The Build
With 4 separate suites and 4 ..read more

The latest green technology gives this charming 1930s replica superior energy efficiency.
The Plan
We wanted to build a Craftsman-style home that would look every bit as mature as the towering evergreen trees lining the established ravine community in which it is situated. In order to accomplish that we had to carefully think about how best to integrate energy-saving elements into the home. Our goal was to achieve our environmentally friendly objectives by using modern day technologies which would enhance its functionality without affecting the old-time charm of the house design ..read more
