Deb’s Dozen: May I have the faith of Abraham to follow where God leads. My husband and I just finished watching His Only Son, an extraordinarily powerful movie. We both just sat quietly at the end of the film, pondering the awesomeness of our God. Many of us know the story of Abraham. We know the words, we intellectually understand the meaning, but this film evoked the emotional, personal side of the story. For the first time, we lived and walked with Abraham. We viewed his life, and we felt his anguish as he walked to Mt. Moriah. We understood the strong faith Abraham embraced despite all the ..read more

The Mulligan for Life

Deb’s Dozen: Mulligans Are Second Chances. Sometimes, a Second Chance for Life and Love. I was always a fan of mulligans when I played golf. As a duffer, I frequently needed a second chance. This wonderful movie, The Mulligan, is about second chances. The main character (Eric Close) has lost his way and become seduced by greed and power. Along the way, he’s become estranged from his wife and son. When he blows up during a golf match, he’s introduced to the “Old Pro” (Pat Boone). Working with the “OP” on his golf game, he learns even more about life. Loved the characters, loved the story, loved ..read more

Sea Glass Cottage Finds Love in Hope Harbor

Deb’s Dozen: Two Couples, Both Separated by Tragedy, Who Find Healing in Hope Harbor Irene Hannon’s Hope Harbor series ranks as one of my favorites. I’m inclined to start any of the novels with great anticipation. Sea Glass Cottage fulfilled my desires for another wonderful love story set in the peaceful seaside town. Favorite characters return—Charley, the resident taco chef, artist, and philosopher; the dueling clerics, Father Murphy and Reverend Baker; and, of course, the almost human seagull pair, Floyd and Gladys. Christi Reece arrived in Hope Harbor hoping to find what she considers her ..read more

Knit by Pendragón: a Cozy Little Tale

Deb’s Dozen: To knit with love and prayer is to share His love everywhere. My mother knit and did counted cross-stitch and read and accomplished all those things with love. She was a wonderful woman, and I miss her terribly. While I read The Unlikely Yarn of the Dragon Lady by Sharon J. Mondragón, one of her characters, Margaret, needed to be in control much like I do. Margaret regretted not talking with her mother more before she died. Although I talked with Mom up until she couldn’t any longer, I wish I had spent more time with her during the sweet period before she went Home. All of the wom ..read more

Murders Abound–Pursued with Hostile Intent

Deb’s Dozen: Someone murders entire families—how are they related? Now someone’s after her. Hostile Intentby Lynette Easton concludes her Danger Never Sleeps series. Finishing the book was sad. I’m not ready to leave these characters. Lynette’s many talents include creating characters who become real to you as you’re reading. I dislike having to say goodbye to friends even when they’ve been involved in tracking murders. Ava Jackson received an early discharge from the Navy to come home to be with her ailing mother. While deployed, she’d lost her father. She couldn’t bear the thought of not bei ..read more

Tried for Murder; Served Her Time. Still Guilty?
Positive Grace | Christian Book Reviews

Deb’s Dozen: Tried for murder, served her time. Despised by many, looking for justice. Trace of Doubt by DiAnn Mills fascinated me. Unlike most of her other books, we meet the criminal at the onset. But this murderer, Shelby Pearce, served her time for the crime of shooting her brother-in-law and had been paroled. Coming to the small town of Valleysburg, she finds some will not allow her to peacefully start over. One of the people most against her parole is FBI Special Agent Denton McGuire—a rookie when she was tried and convicted he investigated her case. But the murder, in his mind, was not ..read more

Deb’s Dozen: An angel teardrop, a creature fashioned from snow—blessed by Jesus himself. Seldom have I seen a book as beautiful as Christmas in Idaho by Ray Downing. The presentation, the artwork, the paper, and the cover are stunning. In addition, the book comes with a CD containing a reading of the story by Eric Conger and the beautiful art animated as well. You will want to keep a copy of this story to read every Christmas—be you a child or a child at heart. You see, Idaho got his name from a burlap sack Molly and Josh used as his vest when they fashioned him from snow. Little did they know ..read more

Trapped in a Runaway Balloon!

Deb’s Dozen: Sister and brother, aloft in a runaway balloon. What will they do? Mark Wainwright wrote a delightful middle-grade story about Jenny, thirteen, and her brother, Cole, nine, and according to Jenny, a rotten brat. Jenny and Cole fought like typical brother and sister, but when Cole tossed away a piece of jewelry precious to Jenny, she had had it! Flying in a hot air balloon? What fun! The kids felt excited and stood in the basket of the balloon while their parents and Mr. Weber finished up on the preparations for launch. Cole, showing off, accidentally hit the lever that turned the ..read more

Murder? Or Mysterious Natural Death?

Deb’s Dozen: Was it murder? Kirby and Riley Gordan become sleuths to find out. I have followed Danny and Wanda Pelfrey since they published their debut novel. Seeing their progress as authors has been rewarding. Solid Ground, the first novel in the Adairsville Heritage series, introduces two winsome characters. I certainly hope more books are to come soon as I didn’t want to part with this cast of somewhat quirky people, who unite to solve a mysterious death or was it murder? Kirby and Riley Gordan, brother and sister respectively, come to Adairsville to settle their uncle’s estate. The situat ..read more
