Happy New Year’s Eve! This is the fifth and last post of the Animated Film Anniversaries series since beginning next year the major anniversaries (every 5 and 10 years) will repeat. 2021 celebrated the most anniversaries and included two years with two movies each.   14) Encanto: Premiere Disney’s newest animated film was released just over a month ago on November 24. Even though it’s the 14th film on this list, it’s Disney’s 60th animated feature film overall. What a big achievement! Encanto means enchant or charm, though it’s also used as a pet name similar to sweetheart. This film tak ..read more

Oh, Frozen. I really do not know what to say about this film. It went from a well-loved to an overhyped film very quickly, but past all of the Frozen craziness, it really is a decent story with some great songs and beautiful animation. Premiered on: November 19, 2013 at the El Capitan Theatre, Hollywood Directed by: Chris Buck Jennifer Lee Produced by: Peter Del Vecho Based on: The Snow Queen by Hans Christian Andersen Sequels: Frozen 2 set for release November 22, 2019 Cast: Kristen Bell – Anna Idina Menzel – Elsa Jonathan Groff – Kristoff Josh Gad – Olaf Santino Fontana – Hans Alan Tud ..read more

Winnie the Pooh is a very sweet story which fits right in with the original Winnie the Pooh films Disney made in the 1960s and 1970s. The characters are loveable and entertaining and I love their devotion to Christopher Robin.  Premiered on: July 13, 2011 at the Walt Disney Studios in Burbank, California   Directed by:  Stephen Anderson  Don Hall  Produced by:  Peter Del Vecho  Clark Spencer Based on: Winnie-the-Pooh written by A.A. Milne  Sequels: none  Cast: Jim Cummings – Winnie the Pooh / Tigger Jack Boulter – Christopher Robin  Travis Oat ..read more

Atlantis: The Lost Empire is a film I tend to forget about but I think that it is a great adventure story. I really like the character of Milo, possibly just because his geekiness is relatable. If Disney continues their live action remake kick, Atlantis could be an interesting contender. Premiered on: June 3, 2001 at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood Directed by: Gary Trousdale Kirk Wise Produced by: Don Hahn Based on: The Legend of Atlantis Sequels: Atlantis: Milo’s Return (2003) Cast: Michael J. The Emperor’s New Groove is one of my favourite Disney films, definitely in my Top Ten list! I probably could have gotten away without watching the film and still have written out so many details for The Story section because I have seen it so many times. But it still makes me laugh and I am glad I watched it! Premiered on: December 10, 2000 at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood Directed by: Mark Dindal Produced by: Randy Fullmer Based on: Original Story (See Trivia) Sequels: Kronk’s New Groove (2005) Cast: David Spade – Kuzco John Goodman – Pacha Eartha Kitt – Yzma Patrick Warburton – Kro ..read more

We have come to the second film which I had to watch for the first time for this blog and Dinosaur was not quite as terrible as I was imagining, though definitely not great. This film was very unique for 2000 in that the backgrounds are all live action but the characters are CGI. Dinosaur is still considered to be an animated film but I find it interesting that the same concept nowadays is considered to be live action. I tried my best to identify the different dinosaurs and correctly name them, but there are no guarantees all are accurate. Apparently watching Jurassic Park and riding past Prim ..read more

Tarzan is probably best known for marking the end of the Disney Renaissance Era but this film tends to fly under the radar. I actually quite enjoy it and had forgotten how funny this film was until I rewatched it for this blog post. I love Jane Porter! Can we please make her an official Disney Princess? Premiered on: June 12, 1999 at the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood Directed by: Kevin Lima Chris Buck Produced by: Bonnie Arnold Based on: Tarzan of the Apes written by Edgar Rice Burroughs Sequels: Tarzan & Jane (2002) Tarzan II: The Legend Begins (2005) Cast: Tony Goldwyn – Tarzan Alex ..read more
