As the singer in X-Ray Spex, Poly Styrene (born Marianne Joan Elliott-Said) would become an iconic part of the British punk scene that developed in the late ‘70s . Despite the punk label, she was a fiercely individual personality as we see in this documentary. Directed by Paul Sng and Poly’s daughter Celeste Bell, this is as much Celeste’s story as it is the singer. She narrates the tale of her mother by rediscovering her heritage from the archive of material Poly left behind when she sadly passed away in 2011.    Plagued at the time of her fame by racists and sexists, she was an out ..read more

WELCOME TO THE WORLD OF FANTASY ALBUMS WHERE MUSIC FANS ARE PUT TO THE TEST TO DECIPHER THEIR ULTIMATE COLLECTION. The rules are simple(ish): they can’t repeat an album, and to just make it that little bit more interesting they have to use the same track number from another album. For example, Track 1 could be the opening track of the incredible Stone Roses’ debut ‘I Wanna Be Adored’. Track 2 could be Blur’s ‘Song 2′ – you get the idea? – basically their fave track 1,2,3 etc from 10 different albums This month’s Fantasy Album has been curated by Jemma Moore. Jemma has been seen ..read more

On hearing that British icon Emma Thompson had co-written with her husband Greg Wise a film based on the famous festive Wham hit I was rather intrigued. Was everything Ok at home Emma, wouldn’t another, maybe seasonal, ‘Nanny McPhee‘ have been a safer bet? But I have enjoyed worse premises, so maybe with a sprinkle of Christmas joy alongside a George Micheal soundtrack could work…maybe? Opening in the former Yugoslavia, with our lead Kate (Emila Clarke) singing George Micheal’s ‘ Heal The Pain‘ at a school concert before zooming off to the year 2016. Sadly Kate is quickly running out of frien ..read more

Failed clown and stand-up comedian Arthur Fleck is desperate for both happiness and connection. The sadness and irony of flecks loner character is instant; he paints on a happy face both physical and metaphorically while being racked with pain inside. To compound his broken soul, he suffers from a medical condition that turns his internal screams into maniacal uncontrollable cackling laughter which is later revealed to have been caused by abuse from his mentally unstable adoptive mother.  He is isolated, bullied, beaten and disregarded by a cruel society which fuels his uncomfortable ..read more
