Happy Monday! I got home yesterday afternoon and I kind of want to just sit and stare into space all day. But I can’t, because it is a work day, blech! I had a lovely lovely visit with Nephew A and Nephew B. Nephew A showed me all his trucks, and Nephew B let me do high fives and fist bumps with him. But no cuddles. He’s so chubby and cute! I just want to cuddle him! But no, I am a Stranger and he screams bloody murder if I pick him up. Not fair. And now I am BACK! Woo-hoo! Let’s see, what is there to talk about today? Oh! I have a question for you! Is this the weekend we do a WatchAlong of Ku ..read more

I’m Visiting Nephews!!!
Dont Call It Bollywood

I’m so excited! I’m doing a last minute lightening visit, ready to push in lots of quality time. Nephew A just sent a message that he will play Superheroes with me. A little worrisome, I don’t know how to play Superheroes. I last did it at age 4 when Adam Simpson from two houses over came for a playdate and he was Superman and I was Superman’s wife.  Not sure I remember how to do it. Nephew B, my big hope is to be able to give him a hug without making him scream. He has a healthy distrust of strangers ..read more

OJ Simpson is Dead: What Was That All About?
Dont Call It Bollywood

I was gonna say that enough time has passed that we can have an interesting discussion about OJ. And then I realized that isn’t true, it’s not time it’s people. We are all caring people with high emotional understandings and intellectual abilities. I have faith that those of us who are already familiar with the ins and outs of what OJ Simpson meant to America can discuss him calmly, and that we can make the discussion open and welcome to folks who may not be as familiar. America makes it very hard for a Black Man to succeed in any field. But slightly less hard in certain fields (entertainment ..read more

Wednesday Watching Post: What Are You Reading and Watching and Listening and Thinking About Eclipse Week???
Dont Call It Bollywood

Happy Wednesday! I am in my new office (my company finally got an office again after shutting down during the pandemic) feeling homesick for my living room. Which is 4 blocks away. So close and yet so far! I’ll start! Reading: Terry Pratchett still, and lots of astrology lists about the eclipse. This will shock you, but the People Magazine astrologer does not line up with the advice from the Nice News astrologer. Watching: I saw Crew again last night! Even better the second time, for real. I was able to relax during the stressful bits, and focus and catch more of the Hindi. The dialogue is gre ..read more

DCIB Zoom Discussion! Zanjeer! Next Weekend! Unless That’s Too Short Notice for Everyone!!!

I love love love Zanjeer. And I was soooooooo happy that it came up as a suggestion. Okay, a suggestion I made, but STILL!!!! It’s also surprisingly short for a 70s film, and on einthusan, so in theory y’all can watch it within the next week (if you haven’t seen it already as you should have). Zanjeer! Amitabh’s big break movie, the last movie he made with Jaya before they got married (they are sooooooooo in love). And a really great role for Jaya, she gets to be a tomboy! Lots of fun stuff to discuss, I think. If you are interested, and think you can watch it within a week, let me know if Fri ..read more

3 Important Discussion Questions! Childcare, Pronunciation, and Holi vs Easter Songs!
Dont Call It Bollywood
by mredlich21

Yes, 3 important topics for us all to crowdsource! I have high hopes from you. If nothing else, I hope to get a settled answer on the pronunciation. Nephew A, who is now 4, has hit a spell of having too many bad thoughts to be able to sleep. Thoughts like Robots and Alligators and Dinosaurs. Scary scary things. And my sister has tried every possible placebo effect comfort thing to get him to just settle and SLEEP, without luck (dreamcatchers, washing the thoughts out of his head, thinking about cars chasing the thoughts out, etc.). As he points out, “that’s just PRETEND”. Versus his worries ab ..read more

Monday Morning Questions: What Do You Want to Ask Me on April Fools Day???
Dont Call It Bollywood

Happy April Fools Day! What a dreadful holiday. I was trying to think of a fun nice prank to put up for this post and everything I thought of just felt MEAN. Is it possible there is no fun nice prank that exists in the world? Here is where you get to ask me anything you want from “Should I see Crew?” to “why do you hate pranks?” Just keep swinging back to this post all week as you think of new questions! Now, question for you! Two questions, first very important: Do you do fake Easter Eggs with stuff inside, or real Easter Eggs that are just Eggs? My family always did Real Easter Eggs, and my ..read more

Crew Review (SPOILERS): More A Series of Events Than a Plot, But Fun!

I don’t want you to spoil yourself on this movie, because there’s a whole lot of twists and things that aren’t in the trailer. But I DO want you to spoil yourself on this movie because there’s some bits where it feels like our heroines are doing the wrong thing, and I want you to know that it’s okay. Whole plot in one paragraph” Our 3 heroines are all flight attendants out of necessity to support their families while they wait for their dreams to come true (Tabu to open a restaurant with her husband, Kriti to get a job as a pilot, Kareena to start her own company). Their airline is running out ..read more
