Sometimes I’ll review a TV show! For years I’ve been a fan of Simon Stålenhag’s work.  His stories will appear on my Pinterest feed constantly and in other places.  This is one of my favorite pieces.  Much can be told in one picture.  There’s intrigue here and I want more. I imagine the kid in green whispering to his friend, “Get ready.”  Simon has published three books with the first titled “Tales from the Loop,” set in an alternate world in the 1980s-90s taking place in Sweden.  Weird technology has taken its grip into the landscape and strange occurrences happen. Things happen ..read more

Oh my gosh it’s been too long.  Let’s get back into things with a review from Disney’s first PG film, The Black Hole from 1979.  Now that I have Disney+ I find myself rediscovering all these movies and series that I hadn’t thought of in years. It starts out with the USS Palomino returning to Earth with a crew of five humans plus one robot. No, the crew didn’t fly in a horse.  Although a palomino is type of color in a horse with a gold coat and white mane and tail.  #themoreyouknow Four of the crew members – in the back left that’s killer Anthony Hopkins (he played Norman Bates in 1960’s Psy ..read more

Is this after The Last Supper?  No, just a depiction of powerful deities. Two movies that have stood out for me depicting Greek mythology (probably because I watched them very young) are Jason and the Argonauts (1963) and Clash of the Titans (1981). Look who’s stoned!  From Clash of the Titans. Jason fighting off nasty s ..read more

In 2015 I watched this in the movie theater and was non-plussed.  It was on HBO, so meh…thought I’d give it another go.  Started it last night and finished it over breakfast this morning. I’ll reveal spoilers so avast ye mateys, ye’ve been warned! Aaarggh! Jupiter Jones leads a humble life in Chicago with a very extensive Russian family and she cleans houses. If you’re going to clean toilets, might as well do it with nice clothes and full make-up on. She finds herself being in the middle of two parties trying to get her.  One is Caine Wise, a Lycantant, genetically bred to be a hunter/soldier ..read more

Aquaman
Movie Review: The Blog

I like comic book movies, I like superhero movies, and I like Jason Momoa. So my youngest and I got Aquaman from the Redbox. Our DVD player wouldn’t turn on, so we ended up renting it from Amazon, but the important thing is that I finally saw it. This is of course another superhero origin story, and it adhered to the formula nicely. Aquaman’s parents meet after a nasty storm washes her ashore (he’s a lighthouse keeper, and she’s a princess of an underwater kingdom – the usual story), which gives us some fun fish-out-of-water moments (I crack me up sometimes). Of course conflict is never far b ..read more
