Uncapped Games, a new Tencent studio formed in 2021, revealed itself to the world this week with a documentary from Noclip's Danny O'Dwyer (embedded above). The studio is working on an unannounced RTS game that it hopes will trigger a "paradigm shift" in realtime strategy by shifting the emphasis away from memorization and execution speed. It's a lofty goal, but if you had to tackle the job, Uncapped's got the kind of roster you'd want. Its team includes veteran RTS devs who helped create genre classics at Blizzard, Relic, and Blackbird, with senior designers, artists, and engineers from gam ..read more

No Rest for the Wicked isn't a Diablo, but it might be one of the smartest soulslikes I've played in a long time

Let's get this out of the way now: No Rest for the Wicked is absolutely not an action RPG in the style of Diablo. There is loot to find, yes, but it doesn't transform you into an untouchable god. No, Rest for the Wicked is a lot closer to a soulslike with its weighty, punishing combat and labyrinthine world. But with its isometric camera and gear rarity, it's also unlike most other games in the genre, and that's exactly makes it so promising. No Rest for the Wicked, which comes from the Ori and the Blind Forest developer Moon Studios (that I sincerely hope has cleaned up its act, lest sour som ..read more

The Martale Gambit is on. As the Helldivers 2 community comes together to counter the Automaton's latest advances in the Andromeda sector, an unconventional idea has emerged that utilizes a hidden mechanic in the galactic war simulation. If it works, Super Earth would be able to liberate two planets simultaneously, including one with an ongoing defense campaign. The goal is to liberate Charon Prime without actually fighting there by cutting off the Automaton's supply lines on the neighboring planet of Martale. Players are calling it the Martale Gambit: Divert all Automaton resistance to Martal ..read more

Fallout show creators decided on their own to faithfully replicate the iconic power armor: 'Bethesda didn't know what we were doing'
PC Gamer Magazine

The Fallout show's power armor is remarkably faithful to the suits found in the Fallout games: big, clumsy, ridiculous. They could've wound up looking very different, though, because according to Fallout show production designer Howard Cummings, Bethesda never insisted on adherence to the games. "They didn't say, 'You have to do the game,'" said Cummings in an interview with PC Gamer this week. "They never said that. They said, 'Show us what you think it should be.'" Cummings didn't know anything about the Fallout games when he started working on the show, but after reading the script and rese ..read more

World of Warcraft boss says Microsoft is happy to 'let Blizzard be Blizzard,' but I'm not sure that's entirely true

Six months after its 2023 acquisition by Microsoft, it sounds like its business as usual at Blizzard. In an interview with VGC, World of Warcraft executive producer and vice president Holly Longdale said being a part of Microsoft has "just been helpful," and that so far the new owners are taking a light touch. "We got time with Helen Chang from Mojang, and we were sharing information, so it's almost as if we have access to what worked for them," Longdale said. "We got to speak to the Elder Scrolls Online team and share what we're up to and what's been working, it's almost like we get a benefit ..read more

OG Fallout lead Tim Cain defends the show's lore changes in a glowing full review—'Not that it matters, I'm not in charge of this anymore, and neither are you'

Original Fallout creator and long time CRPG developer Tim Cain has made a deep dive video about the Fallout TV show, this just one week after he shared his experience at the Hollywood premiere and his disapproval of some of the series' more rude fans. The verdict? Cain still loves the show, and doesn't seem all that bothered by the Fallout timeline inconsistencies some people got worked up over. More than anything else, Cain praised the series for nailing the feel of Fallout. "It's easy to write post apocalyptic stuff that doesn't fit in the Fallout mold," he observed, and I've definitely seen ..read more

The long-awaited sequel to The Ur-Quan Masters hits its crowdfunding target in less than four hours, and they're not kidding about that $4.4 million stretch goal

After a long, rocky road, the sequel to Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters is finally taking flight. A Kickstarter campaign to support the development of Free Stars: Children of Infinity got underway earlier this week, and it's already a major success, having tripled its $100,000 goal in just three days. For those who haven't been following the action, Free Stars: Children of Infinity was originally entitled Ghosts of the Precursors, but that ran into grief when Stardock filed a trademark lawsuit against the project. Stardock claimed it had acquired the rights to the Star Control series from Ata ..read more

Prison Architect 2, sequel to Introversion's beloved incarceration simulation developed by Double Eleven, has been remanded in custody until September 3rd. The delay was announced on Paradox's website, with the Prison Architect 2 team citing the emergence of 'new technical challenges' as the cause for the launch's postponement. "While we currently have builds certified on all platforms and are ready to release, some issues regarding memory usage and minimum spec configurations experiencing more failures have emerged," Double Eleven explains. "Considering the legacy of Prison Architect, and you ..read more

Telltale shares new images from The Wolf Among Us 2, says it's 'been heads down' on the game
PC Gamer Magazine

More than three years after reassuring fans that The Wolf Among Us 2 is still happening but remained a good way off, Telltale Games has released four new images from the game to reassure fans that The Wolf Among Us 2 is still happening—but it's apparently still a good way off. The Game Awards host Geoff Keighley shared the images last night on Twitter, saying The Wolf Among Us 2 is "now in production." As GamesRadar noted, that was a little strange: The game was announced in 2019, at The Game Awards no less, not long after Telltale was reopened under new management, and minus most of its staff ..read more
