The New York Giants defeated the Philadelphia Eagles, 27-10, at MetLife Stadium on Sunday afternoon to close out the 2023 regular season.
It was a positive finish to an otherwise dismal season that saw the Giants finish 6-11 and out of the postseason one year after they made their first trip to the playoffs in six years.
Here are three things we learned from Sunday’s Week 18 game.
The season is too long
Not for me, as I am a gambler by trade, but for the game in general. 18 weeks is proving to be a bit much for the players, coaches, media, and just about everyone who draws a salary from p ..read more

The starting quarterback nod for the New York Giants‘ 2023 season finale against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday boiled down to Tyrod Taylor and Tommy DeVito.
Giants head coach Brian Daboll opted to name Taylor the starter to close the show, as Art Stapleton reported via Twitter on Wednesday:
Tyrod Taylor will start at QB for #NYGiants in Sunday’s finale against the Eagles.

The New York Giants‘ offense remains one of the worst in football this season, due to a myriad of reasons. Right off the bat, their lackluster offensive line has failed to protect the quarterback position, but churning through Daniel Jones, Tommy DeVito, and Tyrod Taylor certainly hasn’t given them any sense of consistency.
With that being said, the Giants had a great opportunity to win against the Los Angeles Rams at home this past weekend. Unfortunately, they were unable to escape with a victory, but a few momentum-changing moments stifled their chances.
In fact, veteran receiver Darius Slay ..read more

The New York Giants‘ offensive line was once again an issue in their 26-25 defeat to the Los Angeles Rams in Week 17, delivering one of their worst performances of the season in a year full of treacherous outings.
Giants’ latest performance adds to collection of terrible outings
New York’s offensive line allowed six sacks in Week 17, the ninth time this season they’ve allowed six or more sacks. Two of Big Blue’s starters, John Michael Schmitz, and Ben Bradeson had Pro Football Focus scores below 36, accumulating scores of 23.5, and 35.9 respectively. Schmitz’s score was the lowest of all cente ..read more

Following their 26-25 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Sunday, the New York Giants are slated to pick fifth overall in the 2024 NFL draft, per Tankathon.
Of course, the debate continues over whether the Giants should draft a quarterback in April.
With the rarity of picking as high as the Giants are projected, it may be wise to target a QB. On the other hand, general manager Joe Schoen seems to be focused on a plan around Daniel Jones and it would be a questionable decision to move off Jones after just six starts into the contract Schoen and the Giants gave him.

The New York Giants’ special teams have always been respectable under coordinator Thomas McGaughey.
This season, which has been one of tumult and turmoil for the Giants, the ‘teams’ as they call them, have fallen victim to the same woes that plagued the rest of the team.
Injuries among the ranks leave little for the teams to choose from come game days. The Giants lost star kicker Graham Gano to a knee injury and punter Jamie Gillan has played through groin and knee ailments of his own. The return and coverage games have suffered from a rotating personnel as well.
McGaughey spoke about Gillan’s ..read more

It’s been a challenging rookie season for New York Giants first-round pick Deonte Banks. The 22-year-old cornerback out of Maryland has faced some of the top wide receivers in the NFL this season, primarily serving as the Giants’ No. 1 cornerback.
Despite his fair share of struggles and challenges, Banks’ confidence remains firm. Ahead of another difficult matchup on Christmas Day, Banks is excited for the opportunity to square off against the Philadelphia Eagles’ elite playmaking duo of A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith.

Giants look beaten up coming out of Christmas Day game vs. Eagles
The New York Giants posted a lengthy injury report on Wednesday as they began practices for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. The Giants held a walk-through, so practice statuses are projections.
Among players who did not practice, cornerback Deonte Banks (shoulder) is noteworthy. He left Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles in the second half.
A long list of Giants were designated as limited.
Perhaps the biggest concern is for punter Jamie Gillan, dealing with left groin and knee injuries. Four of the five st ..read more

The Giants are back to two quarterbacks
The Jacksonville Jaguars announced Tuesday afternoon that they’ve signed quarterback Matt Barkley off of the New York Giants practice squad.
The Giants originally signed Barkley as veteran depth on Oct. 31 after both Tyrod Taylor and Daniel Jones were forced onto the injured reserve due to rib and ACL injuries (respectively). Barkley was believed to be a potential starting option should UDFA rookie Tommy DeVito not be up to the task. DeVito instead managed to seize the starting job and hold on until this week against the Eagles.
Barkley was waived and th ..read more
