One of the unique, wonderful things about New Zealand is the hugely diverse yet small landscape. You’ve got mountains, volcanoes (and supervolcanoes), alpine forests, sub-tropical beaches, glaciers and lakes –all contained in just 268,021 km²! As it sits on the boundary of two tectonic plates there’s also a tonne of geothermal activity, not to mention regular earthquakes. Lake Taupo, in the North Island, is the largest lake in New Zealand and actually the caldera of the Taupo Volcano. Unsurprisingly, the area is renowned for geothermal activity. I find the many natural geothermal won ..read more

Well, it’s been a while hasn’t it? After 2020 totally stole my blogging mojo I was looking forward to 2021 being the year I got my groove back. Well, the universe said a giant LOL to that. Which, given that I’m writing this in November, I can assume you figured. Whereve Have You Been Bitch Summer Heights High GIFfrom Whereve Have You Been Bitch GIFs I turned 30 and then my world fell apart…. OK that’s WAY too melodramatic. I turned 30 and several unexpected events occurred. Firstly, I hit a low, like a real low. And after basically a decade of on and off struggles I got diagnosed with depress ..read more

Creating personalised jars with Cricut

It’s been a really long time since I did a craft project. Since leaving the UK I haven’t really stocked up on crafty materials so when Cricut got in touch to see if I wanted to try their Cricut Joy cutting machine, I jumped at the chance. I love the smaller size of this model. It makes it super easy to store, especially if you don’t have a dedicated craft space. Despite it’s smaller size, the Cricut Joy can still pack a punch. It can cut (up to 20 feet at a time!) and draw on a huge range of materials. From vinyl, to cardstock, to iron-on transfer paper – anything you want to personalise Cric ..read more

Sustainability swaps I made in 2020

I’ve been trying to live more sustainably for a few years now but 2020 was the year I made one of my biggest changes… I broke up with fast fashion GASP! It was my New Year’s resolution and I’m really delighted that I’ve managed to stick with it. Here are the other sustainability swaps I made this year to try and reduce my carbon footprint. Breaking up with fast fashion If you know me IRL then you’ll know I’m a sucker for a H&M or Zara haul so giving up some of my fave high street brands was no easy feat. I can’t deny, it was made a bit easier by living in Wellington, NZ where none of my fa ..read more

Putangirua Pinnacles – AKA The Dimholt Road

Stunning natural beauty, tonnes of adrenaline sports, incredible wineries. New Zealand is known for many things, and pretty high up on that list for a lot of people is Lord of the Rings. As most of us know, the film series was shot here. And with Director Peter Jackson living just a few suburbs away from me in Wellington, there are quite a few filming locations on my doorstep. I recently decided to check one of those out – the Putangirua Pinnacles. These incredible rock formations double as the Dimholt Road or Paths of the Dead in Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King. They’re in the sout ..read more

Wairakei Terraces & Hot Pools

For Labour Weekend I jumped in the car and took myself for a solo trip to Lake Taupo. It was so nice to be solo travelling again! I knew I wanted the weekend to be relaxing, so Lake Taupo with it’s many hot pools and geothermal wonders was the ideal destination. In fact, that’s how I came across Wairakei Terraces. I was talking to a friend about which hot pools to visit and she mentioned this place. At only $40 for a tour of the incredible terraces, with entry into their hot pools for as long as you like, I knew I had to go. The terraces were like nothing I’d ever seen before, the area f ..read more

Wonderful Welly: Van Gogh Alive

On an overcast but surprisingly mild and dry night the other week I set out to the harbourside to check out a new installation that promised to be unlike any art exhibition I’d seen–Digital Nights Wellington – Van Gogh Alive. It’s billed as “An outdoor debut of the world’s most visited multi-sensory experience celebrating the world’s most famous artist, Vincent van Gogh” so I was excited to experience it. After being postponed for a few weeks due to COVID-19 restrictions I was relieved to be able to get a ticket. Competition was fierce and they sold out pretty quickly. The installation is in ..read more

An update from the life after lockdown
Yellow Feather | Bristol Craft, Design and Lifestyle Blog

Well, it’s certainly been a while since I updated this particular corner of the internet.  If you need a reason all I’ll say is…2020. Like everyone, I went into lockdown thinking I’d achieve so much with all the new ‘free time’. I’d meal prep and make healthy choices, I’d bake, I’d craft, I’d blog constantly and finally clear the backlog of half-written travel posts I have. Ha! Clearly none of that happened. I’m so grateful to live in New Zealand where our lockdown was relatively short and life on the other side, especially now, is basically back to normal. But I know that this isn’t the ..read more

[Disclaimer: Gifted] I was gifted this item in return for this review however all words and opinions are my own. *Update 11/20: I love it when through this blog I discover and get to work with brands that I end up loving. That’s certainly been the case with Grin Natural. Since writing this review it’s been the only brand of toothbrush I buy. I’ve even got my boyfriend hooked. I was really touched when recently they got back in touch to say they’d taken feedback (including mine) on board and had changed the flavour of their toothpaste. They asked if I’d like to try it and kindly sent me another ..read more

Wellington on Lockdown

I’m typing this on day 26 of lockdown here in New Zealand. Today we got news that next week the country will move from Level 4 to Level 3, which means that a few more essential businesses can open up and deliveries from certain shops, cafes and restaurants can resume. However, we’ll still have to stay home as much as possible and work from home for the foreseeable. It’s a strange feeling knowing you’re living through such an historic time in history, knowing that in the future people will ask “what was the COVID 19 lockdown like?” I don’t know about you but for me it’s unsettling and monotono ..read more
