Time to Rearrange It is time to rearrange my studio. My tea room is too small for social distancing and sitting for tea. I need to host guests for tea in the larger room of my studio. I am rolling around in my brain as how to conform my studio to safer Covid 19 requirements. Linda’s Tea Bag Paintings Time to Rearrange I’m going to set up a table for four about 8 feet from my work table in the main room. I can accomodate from one to four guests safely with masks. No more big groups, but we do what we must. My work table will move into the tea room on one of the tables that were used for tea. It ..read more

Online Works

Online Works I am surprised to share how well online works to sell art for me during Covid 19. Who knew? Most of my collectors have made a fast transition from coming out to my studio to purchasing via PayPal directly to me through email, and from my Daily Paintworks galleries. My web site needs some help with setting up an e-commerce platform, and my webmaster is overwhelmed with work from other clients. I am waiting for that. In the meantime, people can just email me to purchase through PayPal. Linda’s Tea Bag Paintings Online Works No one seems to mind. I opened a FedEx account, so they pic ..read more

Show Gratitude Show gratitude to the people who make your career possible. During this year of Covid 19 and the accompanying economic disaster, loyalty from collectors and assistance from friends is vital for an artist’s survival. I have been extremely lucky to be supported by friends this year. Linda’s Paintings at Daily Paintworks Show Gratitude I wonder if some artists realize how important the relationships with their collectors are? I know how important mine are. They put food on my table, buy my supplies, and motivate me to do my best work every day. Monthly Painting Offer Show Gratitude ..read more

Don’t Fake It

Don’t Fake It Fake it till you make it is a universal idea. It works especially well for artists, but it is important to back that idea up with solid and excellent art. You may be a marginal painter with a big enough ego to do the right marketing moves but that won’t help you in the long term. Don’t Fake It Linda’s Tea Bag Paintings I know a couple of  marginal artists who are succeeding very well at the moment in their marketing, with professional graphics in their materials, using anticipation to lure interest to their work, in fact, doing a better job of presentation than most pros I k ..read more

Surviving the Summer

Surviving the Summer I am surviving the summer surprisingly well, despite the Covid 19, the intense heat, and usual allergies. I’ve been home since the first week of March. I go out to the Dr every three months so she can yell at me about my country southern diet, but mostly I stay home. Surviving the Summer Linda’s Paintings I’ve been enjoying lots of wildlife this year, including a neighborhood hawk, lots of crows, great horned owls, deer, tortoises, turtles, and turkeys. Each morning I enjoy viewing them on my walk with Studio Dog. Surviving the Summer I did not pick a summer study this yea ..read more

What Now? Here we are, five months into the pandemic. Artists are suffering, art gallery sales have slowed to a crawl. Many artists are having financial problems, due to poor sales. Some artists are sinking into depression. What now? I have switched to online sales for the most part. I haven’t given up. I spend more time and energy on marketing my art online than I used to. I sell a lot of tiny and fun paintings now. Easy to buy and easy to send through the regular mail. I am also selling some larger paintings with layaway agreements. I ship the painting after it is paid for. This works out we ..read more

Buy the Right Painting

Buy the Right Painting Lots of collectors have trouble deciding on which painting to choose for their homes or offices. They see multiple paintings they like in an artist’s studio and they become paralyzed with indecision on what to purchase. There are several good methods to help this decision become easier. Buy the Right Painting Do your homework. First decide on size. If you have a specific location for the painting, cut a piece of craft paper to the size you think you will want. Tape it to the wall. Make sure you add 4 to 6 inches to each measurement for the frame width and length. Keep in ..read more

Back to WordPress I decided last December that I wanted a different, city slicker web site platform. I’ve had WP for some years. My web site designer dutifully remade my site on a new platform. I could make heads or tales of it, truth to tell. I have struggled with it for months. I like to have her set up my site first and then I learn as I go. Back to WordPress Monthly Painting Offer After six months of fiddling with the site, I couldn’t stand it anymore. I have just come back to my simple, easy to use WP web site. It is not at all flashy, but I can manage a lot of it. I do make a lot of mist ..read more

Me Me Me

Me Me Me Notes Me me me is a topic I have mused about on this blog more than once. This seems to be a consistent problem with many artists. Over the last five years, I have quietly removed myself from events with other artists. I have many artists friends that I enjoy socially and through Facebook, but most of my friends are not artists. My non artist friends tend to be better, kinder friends, truth to tell. Me Me Me Landscape Paintings Last year I was involved in a large complex event, on the committee from start to finish as a volunteer. It was shocking to me to see the hubris of some ..read more

Musings on Clouds Musings on Clouds Notes Many people are captivated by clouds. Lots of my friends and collectors are drawn and spend time musing on clouds with me.  I’ve been painting them for many years and I don’t have it right yet. Linda’s Bird Art Musing on Clouds I think the etherial nature of them stays just out of reach for me. I have studied the mechanics of them for many years, the fact that they have one and two point perspective, just as land does for the viewer, was a big aha moment for me as a young painter. I see a lot of paintings from inexperienced painters who don’t unde ..read more
