Exploring Unique Activities at Maine Campgrounds | GoRVing.com An article about us!
Searsport Shores

Jeff Crider wrote an article on GoRVing.com about how we came to own a campground 30 years ago and the activities that happen here in the park. We landed on his radar screen when he was researching the kinds of activities that are offered in campgrounds across the country. We greatly appreciate the attention and perhaps more importantly, truly enjoyed learning what Jeff had to share during our conversations about his years observing the industry and the time he gives so generously to those in less fortunate situations. Much of our side conversations touched on economics, politics and the wor ..read more

Searsport Shores: Community Living & Maine’s Favorites
Searsport Shores

Community is the reason for living a campground life. The opportunity to share projects, chores, meals and cocktails with such creative people is a blessing I wish that more people could share. Here at the Shores, the roles aren’t terribly clear because we all want time out in the sunshine and some of the folks volunteer while others are employed. If pushed to use labels, it’s probably most accurate to say that we have teams of Front Desk Hospitality & Gift Shop, Gardening & Landscaping, Housekeeping and Special Projects. Every single person here is a wonderful asset to our lives and y ..read more

Tides…are a big deal.
Searsport Shores

We talk a lot about water around here. Did you know that Maine has 3500 miles of tidal coastline? We have over 6000 lakes and ponds. We take our mud boots very seriously and every third conversation is about water. We talk about managing run-off after a big storm, snow melts & overflowing rivers, how saturated the raised beds in the garden are and of course, where is the tide right now? Where will it be in an hour when we want to go for a walk? Our Maine tides are magnificent…they rise and fall 8′-12′ (compare that to Florida’s 2′ tide). The distance the water travels in the intertidal zo ..read more

Take a Hike

We gave ourselves an extra couple of hours on Tuesday before voting…so we went to Anglers for fish and chips and then searched the phone for a hike that was close by in order to get some fresh air before the drizzle set in for two days. It turns out that not even 5 minutes from the campground there’s a beautiful hiking trail maintained by the Coastal Mountain Land Trust that follows the Mill Brook. It’s accessed through the Village Cemetery on Mt Ephraim Rd just past Tozier’s Market. A hike along the water, an interesting cemetery and a convenient stop for dinner supplies…total score! An Armenian Picnic is a traditional party with food, music and community in the summer air…we’ve been doing it for as long as history has been recorded. On July 28th, we’ll dance to live Middle Eastern and Balkan music, eat shish kebab, freshly baked Lamejun (Armenian flatbread) from the woodfired pizza oven and other savory dishes served in the garden.  We’ll satisfy our sweet tooth with homemade paklava filled with pistachios and walnuts and dripping in honey syrup. If you’ve been looking for a creative party for the entire family, this is the day to satisfy all of your senses! We’re w ..read more

The Wall Came Down

If you were following Maine weather in January, you know that on the coast we were hit with two storms of a lifetime…and the aftermath left us with a demolished seawall, great swaths of debris and the “opportunity” to rebuild with a better understanding of climate change. The first storm tore the seawall to shreds but the second storm that was coming just two days later frightened us even more because without the seawall, how do we protect all of the front row sites? (not to mention the junipers & roses we’ve been tending for 20 years). Literally, imagine the calvary coming to our aid. A ..read more
