It’s been reported that Take-Two, parent company of Rockstar games and therefore owner of arguably the biggest and most lucrative entertainment product of all time, has decided to shutter two of its studios as part of its recently-revealed plans to lay off 600 employees and cancel in-development projects. As detailed by Jason Schreier at Bloomberg, Take-Two is seemingly closing both the London-based Roll7 – a studio with a 15-year history and some pretty successful games under its belt such as the OlliOlli series and the BAFTA award-winning Rollerdrome – as well as Intercept Games, which is s ..read more

A brand-new Batman: Arkham game is on the way from WB Games, although it’s not the Rocksteady-developed major sequel many would have loved to see in place of this year’s Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League. Instead, it’s the series’ second VR title and it’s headed exclusively to the Meta Quest 3. Although there’s very little information yet aside from a short teaser trailer and the promise of a Late 2024 release date, this one’s being developed by the folks at Camouflaj who also created the excellent Iron Man VR, so there’s at least hope that this will be halfway decent. In the trailer, wh ..read more

As the “cosy” farming/life sim genre has continued to swell and grow in recent years, propelled off of the backs of the likes of Stardew Valley, Animal Crossing and a global pandemic, it can almost feel like too much. It’s hard to look anywhere without seeing another cosy sim of some kind, and trying to keep up even as a fan of the category can be tough. Still, there’s an itch there to scratch and it’s an itch that I can only fill with tended crops and a slowly-growing community of friends. That’s where Rusty’s Retirement comes in. This is a game that not only gives me those base needs but do ..read more

Square Enix has made a fairly bold announcement to its investors overnight, revealing that it’s chosen to take a ¥22.1 billion (almost $220 million AUD) hit in what it’s calling “content abandonment losses” that will be reflected in its books for the financial year ending March 2024. The reason for this, is that the company has revised its approach to development of its console and PC games, or what it calls “high-definition games,” and how it allocates resources to these. Essentially, it’s looking like it’s cancelling or rescoping a bunch of already-greenlit PC and console projects and becom ..read more
