Steve Hutchinson helped convince Seahawks to pick Christian Haynes

Here is story that is a pleasant little blast from the past, of sorts. The Seattle Seahawks focused their draft almost exclusively on building up both their offensive and defensive fronts. Their first pick was defensive tackle Byron Murphy, and essentially their second round pick was Leonard Williams. When it came time for their third round pick, they decided to beef up their interior offensive line. Seattle managed to get one of the best guards available in Christian Haynes, but it was a bit of a process. Having such a long wait between picks can be an eternity in the NFL. It takes patience a ..read more

Mike Jerrell had the best reaction to getting drafted by the Seahawks

For me, the best part of draft content is the reaction videos/stories from the teams where the actual act of drafting takes place. The call from general manager John Schneider to whichever lucky young man is fortunate enough to begin their NFL career. They are usually filled with joy, blessings, and gratitude. Other times, they are just flat out awesome. Such is the case for offensive tackle Michael Jerrell from Findlay, who was Seattle’s last pick in the 2024 NFL draft. When Jerrell was picked, he had quite the amusing reaction, per the Seahawks team website. “‘Hey Michael, John Schneider wit ..read more

Rams wanted to trade up with Seahawks for Byron Murphy II
Seahawks Wire

The Seattle Seahawks enjoyed a rather successful NFL draft, headlined by defensive tackle Byron Murphy II from the University of Texas. The Longhorn standout was considered arguably the best defensive tackle prospect in the draft, and thanks to a string of 14-consecutive offensive players taken in the first round, Murphy was able to fall to Seattle. The Seahawks are notorious for trading back, or even out, of the first round, and it almost happened again. John Schneider admits he had several offers to trade back, which is why I tentatively graded the Murphy pick an A- out of sheer curiosity ab ..read more

Every pick in the NFL draft is a gamble – and whether or not it pays off depends in large part on the team the prospect is going to. Coaching and player development are every bit as important as talent for turning a rookie into a contributor and it’s critical that they fit into the team’s vision. As for the 2024 draft class, the Seahawks seem to have found an excellent fit in Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II, who they picked at No. 16 overall. Marc Ross at NFL.com has made a list of the 10 rookies who have ended up in the best situations for themselves around the league and Murphy came i ..read more

Ranking the top 32 running backs in the league after the 2024 NFL draft

Don’t look now but running backs are making a comeback. This past free agency period is evidence of that, as several high-end backs got serious pay-days from their new teams, including Derrick Henry, Josh Jacobs and Saquon Barkley. You certainly don’t need to tell the Seahawks that an effective rushing attack can still win you games – as their failures to stop the run were a big reason they lost several close ones over the last two years. The proliferation of two-high safety shells and defenses generally doing all they can to take away home run balls isn’t going away anytime soon, so let’s tak ..read more

The Seattle Seahawks have made a move today involving the quarterback position. Following their rookie minicamp, Seattle decided to release quarterback Chevon Cordeiro from the roster. The news was broken today by ESPN’s Brady Henderson on Twitter. The Seahawks announced they released QB Chevan Cordeiro, a UDFA from San Jose State. They had two other QBs take part in their rookie minicamp but both were on a tryout basis and have not been signed. So Seattle has just two QBs on its roster, Geno Smith and Sam Howell. — Brady Henderson (@BradyHenderson) May 8, 2024 The Seahawks decided to not dr ..read more

Staying competitive in the NFL over the long haul is about as hard as it gets in team sports. Some teams like the Packers, Eagles and Ravens have managed to field playoff contenders for most of the seasons in the 21st century. The Seahawks have typically been about one tier lower than that group in recent years. While they have consistently made the playoffs or just barely missed they haven’t gotten past the divisional round since 2015. One reason why is they simply haven’t fielded as much overall talent as other heavyweights around the league. According to an analysis by Ian Hartitz, Seattle ..read more

ESPN: Seahawks had 4th-round grades on their 2 former Auburn cornerbacks

Everybody agrees the Seahawks got their first two picks in the 2024 NFL draft, including Pro Football Focus. There’s far less agreement about the choices they made on Day 3 of the draft, though. The biggest subject of debate concerns Seattle double-dipping at cornerback, a position where they already had one of the better units in the league going into this year. Critics have suggested they should have drafted a safety instead of another cornerback, or better yet a developmental quarterback. Of course the front office has a slightly different-looking draft board than the ones fans and bloggers ..read more

Pro Football Focus says Seahawks nailed their first two draft picks
Seahawks Wire

Their Day 3 picks are the subject of some debate, but the Seattle Seahawks are getting near-universal approval for their first two picks in the 2024 NFL draft. With Texas defensive tackle Byron Murphy II and UConn guard Christian Haynes, the team added two highly-ranked, impactful prospects where the current roster is weakest compared to the NFL’s true contenders: at the line of scrimmage. The latest acclaim for Murphy and Haynes comes from Pro Football Focus, where they have put together a list of takeaways from the draft, one for each team. In Seattle’s case the headline is that they nailed ..read more

Free agency is over, the draft is done and the rosters are for the most part set. That means it’s finally time for rankings season. Yesterday we kicked things off by ranking all 32 teams around the league. We slotted the Seahawks at No. 19, just below the group of fringe playoff teams who might or might not make the postseason depending on the way the ball bounces. A lot of factors go into winning or losing in this league, but the most dependable path to success is and has always been finding a strong starting quarterback. Let’s see how Seattle stacks up in this all-important department after ..read more
