Charlotte, NC -- New Charlotte Knights Manager Wes Helms expects a break-out year for Gavin Sheets in 2020. “His make-up is top-notch,” Helms said. “He is one guy to really keep an eye on.” Helms should know better than anyone. He managed Sheets last year in Birmingham, where the 23-year-old first baseman hit .267, with 16 home runs and 83 RBI in 464 at bats.  Helms said Sheets has the intangibles to succeed, with a strong work ethic and a desire to always improve. “When some guys struggle, they stop trusting the process,” Helms said. “But Gavin comes in every day and focuses on his routi ..read more

Jose Rodriguez is worth monitoring in White Sox farm system

Following Minor League Baseball is something that I've loved doing for a while now. I was sucked into trying to decipher which players would be the next contributors and future stars for the White Sox. The potential of a player breaking out, playing themselves onto the Major League roster or into the future plans of the big-league squad always intrigued me. Seeing an under the radar prospect break out and make a name for himself is always a welcomed development for any farm system and prospect hound. A prospect that is a bit further away but is garnering some much-deserved attention in the Sox ..read more

White Sox Open Extension Talks with Outfielder Luis Robert

The Chicago White Sox have built a reputation of extending their own players earlier than was usual in previous cases. In the past, the front office has inked deals with Chis Sale, Jose Quintana, Adam Eaton and Nate Jones. Shortstop Tim Anderson signed an extension with the club in March 2017 after playing in 99 big league games. Anderson is guaranteed $26.5 million on a six-year contract that could pay him over $50 million. Anderson's pact was the largest at the time for a player as inexperienced as the former first rounder was. Sale, Quintana and Eaton possessed contracts that ultimately exp ..read more

Going Deep with Alex Destino

I’m guessing anyone reading this has spent more than a few times in a batter's box staring down a pitcher. I’m also guessing that most of you did it at a low level before a pitcher had a complete set of pitches. Before you had to wonder if the next offering was going to be a curve or a slider, much less a nasty changeup. Most of you walked up to the plate, waited for the pitcher to throw, sized it up, and if it looked good, took a rip. A few of you were lucky enough to make contact. If that sounds relatable, my conversation with Alex Destino attempts to draw you into the professional batter's ..read more

White Sox move on from Steele Walker and welcome Nomar Mazara

The Chicago White Sox dealt from a position of depth at the Winter Meetings, as Steele Walker was sent to the Texas Rangers in exchange for left-handed hitting outfielder Nomar Mazara. The Sox are losing a 23-year-old who compiled a .265/.338/.423 slash line across 164 minor league games. Walker reached as high as Advanced-A in the Sox system following his selection in the second round of the 2018 MLB draft. He got off to a slow start in his first 44 games as a professional after a demanding season collegiately in the Big 12. Ultimately, the left-handed hitting outfielder belted five home ..read more

Baseball's annual Winter Meetings are underway in San Diego, California and the hot stove is scorching as teams have been announcing trades and signings. The festival of roster building ends on Thursday, December 12th as decision makers turn in their key cards and begin their treks home. But front office personnel generally stick around to partake in that morning's Rule 5 Draft prior to exiting. The draft takes place at 11am Central Time this year which prompts executives to get an early start while being on Pacific Time. Unlike last year when the White Sox were in full-on rebuilding mode, the ..read more
