A Lorton man who brought a woman who had been shot to Inova Mount Vernon Hospital has been charged with her murder, Fairfax County police said. Huy Tien Nguyen, 47, faces charges of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony in the deadly shooting of his girlfriend, Alison “Kate” LaPorta, 38, of Lorton. Fairfax County police said Nguyen brought LaPorta to the hospital at 11:35 p.m. Wednesday. She was then taken to Inova Fairfax Hospital where she was pronounced deceased. A Fairfax County school bus struck the relatively new Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles building on Braddock Road Thursday morning when another driver failed to yield, forcing the bus driver to swerve off the road, Fairfax County police said. Three people — two children and the bus driver — were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to Fairfax County police who said the injuries were minor.
