From Art 100 to Physics 101, about 500 different instructors teach Boise State’s foundational courses for non-majors. These teachers are responsible for approximately one-third of all the courses students take. Maria Garcia De la Cruz donned her cap and gown to accept her Master of Education degree on May 4, 2024. But before she ever dreamed of walking across that stage, before she became an academic advisor for Boise State’s RN-BS Online Completion program, she wanted to be a nurse.
“I thought I was going to go help save lives, or help people at their last stages of life or beginning stages,” she said.
But rarely does life go according to plan.

The Boise State benefits team will host an open enrollment event on Thursday, May 9 from 3-5 p.m. in the Student Union Jordan Ballroom. No registration is required. The university has approved an hour of release time for all benefit-eligible employees to attend the event in person or virtually. Guests are welcome to attend the event with a benefit-eligible employee (this includes spouses and partners).

All humanities and social sciences faculty are encouraged to mark their calendars for the Igniting Scholarship in Teaching workshop to be held Aug. 1-2 on Boise State’s campus.
This workshop will offer presentations on teaching across the humanities and social sciences with interactive discussions about advancing scholarly teaching on campus. Boise State’s open enrollment period is available through 11:59 p.m. on Friday, May 10. All benefit-eligible employees need to complete their open enrollment selections by this deadline. Hard copy submissions to the Human Resources and Workforce Strategy (HR) office need to be delivered no later than 5 p.m.
For participants in Flexible Spending Account, account elections must be enrolled or re-enrolled during open enrollment.
