No rest for the weary: Boise State back on the road for huge week starting Tuesday at Colorado State

Boise State coach Leon Rice knows his players could use some days off – and he’s promised them they are coming. It just can’t be until next week. The Broncos, who have played nine consecutive games without more than three days in-between them, will finally enjoy a bye in the schedule next week. But first comes maybe the most important week of the season when the Broncos play at Colorado State on Tuesday and at Utah State on Saturday. Rice has increased bench minutes in recent games to fight fatigue and has done what he can in practice to keep players fresh for the stretch run. He’s hoping the ..read more

Boise State moves back into first place tie with ‘remarkable’ 94-56 blowout win over Air Force

Six weeks from now the Boise State men’s basketball team might look back and call this the biggest week of the season.  Although they hope to say the same thing about next week. A road win at The Pit on Wednesday night and a 38-point blowout win on Saturday gave the Broncos a massive boost to the computer metrics and moved them back into a first place tie with Utah State at the midway point of the conference season.  Not a bad week.  Next week Boise State plays maybe its toughest week of the season with a Tuesday road game at Colorado State and a Saturday road game at Utah State ..read more

Prater: Mad Max goes all Rambo in Albuquerque as Boise State gets back on track

It’s one of my all-time favorite stories, a story worth sharing over and over. Especially now. In case you haven’t heard, as the story goes, told by the man himself, Boise State basketball coach Leon Rice once shot himself. As a child of the 1970s in Richland, Washington, he somehow turned a collection of curious friends, large rocks and a .22 bullet into a bloody knee. His mother, a nurse, stuffed a belt in little Leon’s mouth and cleaned up the mess herself. Rub some dirt on it, son, it’ll be just fine. Rice has been one tough dude ever since – and demands toughness from his teams. Rice’s so ..read more

Max Rice busts out of slump with career-high 35 points to lead Boise State to upset at No. 19 New Mexico

ALBUQUERQUE – Boise State’s charter flight home late Wednesday night nearly got rerouted at the request of coach Leon Rice. “We’re actually going to divert the plane to Vegas and put it all on 12 black,” Rice joked on the BNN Postgame Show. With the way things went for Boise State’s No. 12 at The Pit on Wednesday, the roulette wheel probably would have landed on it several times.  Max Rice had a career-high 35 points and hit several clutch shots in the second half to help Boise State to one of the best wins of the Leon Rice era – a 86-78 win over No. 19 New Mexico on the road. Rice ..read more

Boise State faces daunting task Wednesday night at New Mexico

On paper there appears to be very little chance the Boise State men’s basketball team can go down to Albuquerque and hang with the New Mexico Lobos on Wednesday at The Pit. But that’s why they play the games, right? No. 19 New Mexico (18-3, 6-2 MW) has won five straight games by double digits, has maybe the best trio of guards in the league and has one of the best homecourt advantages in all of college basketball.  “They are clicking as good as anybody in the country right now,” Boise State coach Leon Rice said.  The Broncos (14-6, 5-2), meanwhile, are coming off a deflating overtime ..read more

Boise State gives up late bucket, falls 90-84 in overtime to Utah State

Any remaining margin for error just got even smaller for Leon Rice and the Boise State men’s basketball team. The Broncos gave up a game-tying bucket with 1.3 seconds left and suffered a 90-84 home loss in overtime to Utah State on Saturday afternoon.  The loss itself is not a ‘bad’ one. But with road trips to New Mexico, Colorado State and Utah State coming up in within the next 14 days, a second home loss in three games wasn’t ideal for a Boise State team with hope of winning the Mountain West and getting back to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in four games.  O’Mar Stanley ..read more

Broncos see four-game winning streak snapped in worse loss of the season to UNLV

BOISE – The Boise State women’s team didn’t win much of anything Wednesday night at Extra Mile Arena. Not even the opening tip. The Broncos saw their four-game winning streak come to an unceremonious end with a 84-63 loss to UNLV. It’s their worst defeat of the season and the 84 points are the most allowed in nearly two years. They’ve also now lost six straight times to the Rebel – all by double figures. “We didn’t show up,” Boise State coach Gordy Presnell said. “They’re very good and we never adjusted to the speed nor the physicality of the game. They play a rough, great brand of basketball ..read more

Boise State signs former 5-star wide receiver Chris Marshall
Bronco Nation News | Boise State Football and Basketball

The Boise State football team has added a second former five-star prospect to the roster in less than three weeks. This one comes with a bit of a risk, but the payoff could be tremendous. The Broncos announced the signing of Kilgore Junior College transfer Chris Marshall on Wednesday. Marshall previously was at Texas A&M and Ole Miss but faced disciplinary issues at both schools. Marshall was a five-star prospect and the No. 24 overall player in the 2022 recruiting class before signing with the Aggies. But he was suspended twice there and eventually transferred to Ole Miss, where he was di ..read more

Boise State lets big lead slip, hangs on for road win at Fresno State

FRESNO – Boise State blew a 16-point lead in the second half but used a late Chibuzo Agbo 3-pointer and a key defensive stop to hang on for a 72-68 road win at Fresno State on Tuesday night. “Any road Mountain West win is a good win,” Boise State guard Max Rice said. “It got really scary there at the end. … I don’t think a lot of teams could still win a game where the other team goes on a 21-3 run. It’s a huge road win and we’re playing for first place on Saturday.” Agbo and Max Rice each had 16 points to lead the Broncos, who led 63-47 midway through the second half before Fresno State rippe ..read more

Boise State bench comes up big in 67-66 home win over San Diego State
Bronco Nation News | Boise State Football and Basketball
by B.J. Rains

A few days after fans and media members criticized Boise State’s bench for a lack of production – and coach Leon Rice for not playing them more – a trio of Broncos made sure to quiet that talk on Saturday. Cam Martin, Jace Whiting and Andrew Meadow combined for 10 points in 36 minutes off the bench to help the Boise State men’s basketball team to a need 67-66 win over Mountain West favorite San Diego State on Saturday at ExtraMile Arena. Boise State’s had just two points in a 68-64 loss to UNLV on Tuesday and had just 15 total points in four conference games before Martin, Whiting and Meadow a ..read more
