Nebraska Athletics A hard fought back and forth game saw the Nebraska bullpen come out on top. A perfect night in Minneapolis for baseball saw a game between the Huskers, looking to stay in the running for first place in the league, and the Gophers, trying to get back in the race to make it to Omaha. Nebraska sent out their ace, Brett Sears, coming off a rough start against Iowa, while Minnesota countered with Will Semb. Sears gave up an early run in the first inning to Minnesota just, like Iowa. This time though, he was able to regain his composure and strike out the next batter, keeping the ..read more

Harness provided relief until the bats awakened. If you’ve truly enjoyed holding your breath and battling arrhythmia this season, then tonight’s game was for you. Until the top of the 4th rolled around, the Huskers were wondering who was walking under ladders and dicking about with black cats and spilled salt. Minnesota groundouts were hitting bases, Huskers were being thrown out at home, Kaylin Kinney was giving up walks and donking batters. And in the top of 3rd, two smoked shots by Billie Andrews and Sammie Bland resulted in a quick pair of outs after Sam’s missile was snagged in center and ..read more

Scott Bruhn There’s a logjam of Big 10 teams fighting for the last byes in the Big 10 Tournament, but the math for the Huskers is pretty simple. Let’s skip the big intro and just start with the current B1G softball standings. (Please note Nebraska has played two fewer games than everyone else in the logjam, both likely wins. This would have put them in a 3-way tie for 3rd place, not a 4-way tie for 5th.) Here’s what we know about the upcoming weekend: The top four teams will get to sit out Wednesday’s opening round. The bottom two teams will get to sit out the entire tournament. The hilarity ..read more

A Senior Day Weekend HUSKERS SOFTBALL Recap

Given the strange and stormy weekend, this was a fitting backdrop for the seniors. Last weekend, we had storms, the threat of more storms, 1 1⁄2 games, the weird decision of suspending/resuming, but finally the celebration of a senior class to remember. (I promise this has a happy ending. If you don’t wish to suffer the 8-1 loss, the weather talk, the cancelled 5-0 lead game and the weather-impaired Idiots’ Ball Corn Nation Tailgate, just scroll down to the Senior Day stuff. That’ll bring the smiles.) The past weekend had it all and, also, not quite enough. So let’s set the table here, shall w ..read more

Photo by Steven Branscombe/Getty Images You can be critical of Matt Rhule for various things if you want to, but I would say that one of my favorite things about Matt Rhule is that he is a breath of fresh air. In the interview with Hurrdat Sports yesterday, which I posted below, Rhule went a long answer (which I love) when he started talking about the loyalty of certain players. He talked about the loyalty of Thomas Fidone. Then he threw out another player who he said was extremely loyal in Chief Borders, who announced he was entering the transfer portal several days ago. He said that Borders ..read more

Justin averaged 15.5 points, 8.7 rebounds, and 1.4 assists during his freshman year with the Bobcats. He shot just over 50% from the floor and 36% from beyond the arch. Photo by Justin Ford/Getty Images In a blow to Nebraska, Rienk Mast and Fred Hoiberg announce that the third team all-conference performer will miss the entire 2024-205 season. He plans on coming back to play for Nebraska in the 2025-2026 season. Last season, Mast averaged 12.3 points per game and led the team in both rebounds and assists. Nebraska and Fred Hoiberg were already tasted with replacing a lot of outgoing talent and skill and now that will be even more difficult with the loss of one of the best players from last season’s NCAA tournament team. Unfortuantely, Mast will still count to ..read more

Photo by Steven Branscombe/Getty Images This week on the the show, it’s a mild audible. Our intent was to have the one and only Hoss Reuter on the show to break down the Nebraska Spring Game. But Hoss has been under the weather this week so we are putting a pin in his input until next week. We will have our own review of the Red/White game in which the White Squad won 25-21. The format of the game was different than in years past which provided a fresh viewing experience. And while the Nebraska baseball team was swept in its season series Tuesday night against Creighton, Jackson Brockett put ..read more
