Sustainability has become a bigger story in the denim industry in recent decades, but for Italian mill Candiani Denim, considering the environmental impact of production dates back half a century. In 1974, the Italian government established a nature preserve in the area surrounding Candiani’s factory. The manufacturer was faced with a choice: adhere to environmental directives or relocate. Candiani chose the former and began its ongoing work to reduce the impact of its facility.

Last week, the TENCEL Denim team participated in Kingpins Show Amsterdam.
It was a great show again with lots of inspiration and socialization for the denim community. The overall vibe was better. Along with the improvements and ideas around the sustainability topic, there have been inquiries from brands for product novelties. As an example, engineered coatings and high-shine surfaces were the topics which were requested.

The TENCEL Denim team is constantly collaborating with our supply chain partners—including manufacturers and brands—to develop new applications for our fiber innovations.
In the latest iteration of our Application Innovation collection, we have teamed up with 11 denim mill partners from countries including Pakistan, India, China and Vietnam. The 20-piece collection will debut at Kingpins Amsterdam this week.

TENCEL fibers are made from responsibly sourced trees. A prime way to create a consistent talent pool for the denim industry is to engage students. The Kingston University Masters Denim Project 2024, which just wrapped its third edition, provides this denim education with help from material manufacturers.
Throughout the two-month-long project, students participated in denim wash workshops with Isko and trim workshops on trims with YKK.
