Photo by Cole Burston/Getty Images It’s back to the Bronx for another week of games. The Yankees got a much-needed day off after a so-so road trip, and now they’re back at home against another division rival. The AL East is, as expected, highly competitive from top to bottom and the Rays are in the thick of it, as well as always playing the Yankees tough, so it’s hardly an easy task they’re jumping back into. That being said, the team’s series win streak got broken so there’s no better opponent to start a new one against than one of your own competitors. Speaking of the Rays, Matt leads us off ..read more

Could Soto and Alonso swap teams?; Taylor Trammell claimed from Dodgers, Kevin Smith DFA’d; A guide to food around the Stadium; Scattered thoughts around the team New York Post | Jon Heyman: Two of the biggest upcoming free agents this year are in New York, with Juan Soto and Pete Alonso. While both are more likely to stay with their respective current teams, there’s a chance the two could swap boroughs, especially if the rumors about the Mets interest in Soto come to fruition. The Yankees are said to have Soto as a “top priority,” but if the Mets outbid them, the Bombers could pivot to the P ..read more

Stanton is still important to the Yankee offense

Nick Turchiaro-USA TODAY Sports Far from a “cherry on top,” Big G’s production is necessary to avoid dead weight on the roster. 2024 was always going to be a crucial year for Giancarlo Stanton after last season. 2023 was, by any measure, was the worst year of his career. He slashed just .191/.275/.420 in 415 plate appearances and 101 games. He posted just an 87 OPS+. He whiffed at an eye-watering 34.1 percent rate—and 44.6 percent of sliders alone. He clearly couldn’t catch up with the fastball last year, either. As Josh pointed out in his season preview for Stanton, Big G spent 46 days on the ..read more

Don’t panic over Austin Wells’ slow start to the season

Photo by Dustin Satloff/Getty Images Despite bad numbers on the surface, a look behind the scenes suggests notable improvements. It’s been beaten to death at this point, but the Yankees’ offensive formula prior to 2024 was painfully stagnant. As it turns out, constructing a lineup mostly consisting of strikeout-prone, right-handed batters was not a recipe for success. It was refreshing to see New York call up Jasson Domínguez and Austin Wells towards the end of the 2023 campaign, even if necessitated by injury. The Martian was electric for eight games prior to injury, and though Wells took a m ..read more

Offer up your salute to John Sterling with this new shirt

BreakingT The Yankees’ longtime announcer has called it a career. It’s hard to believe that John Sterling is no longer on the air. At the start of his 36th season behind the mic for the New York Yankees, the 85-year-old Sterling simply decided that he didn’t have the energy to push through the long, 162-game slate, and he has called it a career. Sterling will be honored on April 20th at Yankee Stadium, where fans can give him one last round of applause. Greg Kirkland and Jeff Middleton offered up some terrific tributes to Sterling, and I can only echo their words. He was a quirky character in ..read more

José Caballero | Photo by Jayne Kamin-Oncea/Getty Images Amidst significant absences and early season struggles, Tampa is finiding unexpected production Thus far in 2024, the Yankees have been tested with four games in Houston to open the season against their biggest rivals in recent years, and they’ve also had to contend with their tough neighbors to the north, the Blue Jays, for three games at home and three away. Tomorrow, though, they’ll welcome the AL East foe that has given them the most fits across the past decade and a half: the Tampa Bay Rays. Despite taking one on the chin in the nin ..read more

Photo by Scott Taetsch/Getty Images There was ninth-inning drama throughout the AL East on April 17th. On Wednesday, the Yankees turned the tables on the Blue Jays in Toronto with a ferocious four-run ninth that swapped a 4-2 deficit for a 6-4 lead that held. It was one of those special games that you’ll remember at the end of the season, especially if it becomes a particularly good one for your team of choice. The Yanks and Jays weren’t the only AL East teams that encountered ninth-inning theatrics, though. Both the Orioles and Rays had their hearts palpitating at the end of the game, and eve ..read more

Photo by Tim Warner/Getty Images The 31-year-old southpaw is on the road back to form and the changeup will aid that process. Now that Carlos Rodón’s terrible, horrible, no good, very bad debut season in pinstripes is in the rearview mirror, player, team and fans can have renewed optimism that the two-time All-Star can get back to his best. He showed up to camp early and in fitter condition, and so far he looks like a more athletic and mobile pitcher on the mound. However, we all know that is not enough from the Yankees’ big money free agent signing of two years ago. The 31-year-old southpaw n ..read more
