Tamale communities hit by acute water shortage

An acute water shortage has hit more than five commu­nities in the Tamale me­tropolis of the Northern Region as residents queue to buy water from the water tankers at a high price. Some of the affected commu­nities are Vittim, Kobilmahgu, Gbewaa Residential Area, Sanzi­rigu, Wamale, Kalarigu and some part of Kukuo. The situation compelled them to wake up as early as 4:00 a.m. to wait for the water tanker to get water. As part of Ghana’s renewed drive to eliminate malaria by 2028, a mass drug ad­ministration (MDA) of anti-malaria drugs is expected to be rolled out in selected districts in the Greater Accra Region from next month.  A devastating fire on Tuesday night swept through a three-bedroom house located at Tetegu in the Weija-Gbawe Municipality, in the Greater Accra Region. All occupants, including five children escaped unhurt, and the family, who are currently left with nothing estimate their losses to be in excess of a million cedis.
