Isle of Wight shipping specialist Acclaim Logistics has taken on nearly 20 staff members at the collapsed Steve Porter Transport Group as well as former MD Malcolm Gibson, after acquiring some of the assets of the company.
The deal also includes the acquisition of Steve Porter Transport's Cowes depot, which increases Acclaim Logistics warehouse space from 8,000sq ft to 15,000sq ft.
Commenting on the takeover, Acclaim Logistics said the deal will see key supermarket contracts preserved and ensure the continuation of vital supply chain services.

The 2024 everywoman Transport & Logistics Awards, which aim to inspire more women to build careers in the industry, are now open for nominations until 29 January 2024.

Delivery giant DHL Express has appointed current Americas chief executive Mike Parra as CEO for DHL Express Europe, whilst Andrew Williams, chief executive of DHL Express Canada, will take on the role of the new regional CEO for the Americas from 1 January 2024.
The new recruits will report to John Pearson, global CEO for DHL Express, and will be members of the DHL Express global management board.

Scotlog Sales of Inverness is trialling a new 44-tonne Volvo electric timber wagon, which will transport timber shipped in from the west coast and hauled from the Port of Inverness to the West Fraser site at Dalcross.
The new “wagon and drag” truck, which is a rigid vehicle and trailer, is part of a three-year government-backed trial testing two state-of-the-art electric vehicles to move timber, with the aim of reducing carbon emissions.

Strikes by a fleet of DS Smith LGV drivers delivering packaging cardboard and paper to major retailers across the country, including Amazon, have escalated to cover the entire Christmas period, union Unite announced today.
The union is warning that strikes will compromise the ability of DS Smith clients, which include Direct Wines, Cadbury, Amazon and Haribo, to package items for mail order delivery to customers during the festive season.

Cold storage and distribution services operator Reed Boardall is one of 100 organisations across Yorkshire and the Humber to be given a Silver award, accredited by the MOD, as part of the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS).

Volta Trucks has been bought out of administration by New York-based hedge fund Luxor Capital Group for an undisclosed sum, in a move which has been hailed as safeguarding the future of the electric truck start up.
However it is unclear if any of the 600 staff at its main UK manufacturing, research and development facilities will be re-employed under the new owners.

Commercial vehicle specialist Asset Alliance Group has opened a new site at Trafford Park in Manchester, in a move aimed at strengthening customer relationships in the North of England and driving new business opportunities.
The site houses the group's asset management division and is home to the firm’s procurement, residual value and fleet specification teams. It is Asset Alliance Group’s fourth main sales depot, alongside Wolverhampton, Newmains in North Lanarkshire and Ipswich.

ArrowXL has invested £5m into its fleet, with 75 7.5-tonne DAF LFs replacing 50 vehicles and adding 25 to deal with growing client demand.
The built-to-order trucks have an increased payload, which ArrowXL said would play a crucial role in building on its productivity and sustainability and cut CO2 emissions.

Cider maker H Weston and Sons has been fined £1.4m after one of its drivers was killed by the end of a security barrier at its site in Herefordshire.
Tommy Manns was driving a van out of the Henry Westons Cider manufacturer’s depot in Ledbury when the barrier speared through the vehicle’s windshield and fatally crushed the 65-year-old farm manager.
