Hello! I know its been a long time, such a lot has happened (or hasn't happened), its been a tough year hasn't it? The stop starting of my business has had me in the doldrums of despair, especially the start of 2021. I have been ticking off the days when I can start training clients again, that time is very soon and I am excited! Since last March I have read a lot and listened to different podcasts, mainly about how women are so different to men in terms of fitness, as Dr Stacy Sims says "WOMEN ARE NOT SMALL MEN!". The obvious differences between the sexes are muscle mass, weight, lever length ..read more

So we are still in lockdown, they’ve loosened the reins but we aren’t out of the woods yet! This week has been a little tough, for me anyway. I expect it’s because of the change of weather. Everything looks sunnier when the sun is out and shining! One positive is that I am really starting to enjoy my training again. I am beginning to feel fitter and look like my old self - physically that is! Mentally I am still finding it a little difficult, with good days and bad days. I expect I am not alone in feeling like this. The good days though are slowly beginning to outnumber the bad days. I think ..read more

Hi, it’s been a while since one of my blogs. Life has been hectic but obviously not in the normal way. Lockdown has been difficult, juggling working remotely with clients and home schooling at the same time! The weather has been a godsend for me, getting up and seeing the sun shining has been all it has taken to help me start the day with a little spring in my step! The weeks when the weather hasn’t been great though has been a struggle, and the black cloud has followed me a couple of times. Exercise has played an important part for me the last month or so, after recovering from illness that ..read more

Patience..

2020 has been a tough year for the Gibbs family so far. We have all had heavy colds, coughs and generally feeling unwell throughout January and February. With illness comes breaks in your fitness routine, which means losing important (to me) hours of training. Important because 1) it helps me keep sane and 2). This was the year to train for performance. As you can imagine this ‘blip’ is making me feel frustrated! No exercise makes my head feel like it’s going to explode! I can manage it for a couple of days then I get fidgety. Even when I am feeling rough, I still have to fight the urge to ge ..read more

It’s February and there is a glimpse of light at the end of the winter tunnel. I never really thought January and February were tough months until my 40s. Maybe it’s the lack of sunlight but since Christmas I have really suffered. Tiredness is one of those feelings, that for me can totally kill a planned session. Take for instance today, not enough sleep last night has turned into having to change my planned workout. I find this hugely frustrating and a year ago I wouldn’t even think about doing it. Since I have started tracking my hrv/recovery using Morpheus I have become much more ‘smart’ i ..read more

Why you should be lifting weights..

As most of you that read my blogs know, I really advocate lifting weights. I think it’s beneficial whatever age you are, it improves strength, balance, posture, mental health, physical health and really does help you in later life as the movements incorporate activities that we all do but when your older get more difficult such as sitting down and getting up (squats), climbing stairs (lunges) and picking up bags or other heavy items (deadlifts) to name but a few. So whilst it helps almost everyone to pick up some dumbbells and start using them in your program, a group of people it really does ..read more

Its 2020, Happy New Year to everyone! I hope your Christmas was special and you spoilt yourself too. So now its time to think IF you want to change anything from last year. Analyse what was good and what was bad in terms of your personal life, work life and fitness. Is there anything that stands out? Was managing time a problem? Did you try and fit too much into your week? Well this is the time to re-think, and re-programme bits of your life that you think will improve your 2020. I love the start of a new year, as I do look back and see it as a time to really get my head round certain areas o ..read more

2019 is drawing to a close and it’s time to look back and see what progress you have made throughout the year. There will be things you can change for the coming new year in relation to your training, its handy if you keep a journal as it’s much easier to look back on certain sessions and see whether they have helped or hindered your progress. This year was a strange year for me, lots of ups and downs in my training and family life. I started off 2019 training in a new team and performing sessions that I had never tried before, the volume was tough but I enjoyed it at first. Unfortunately thi ..read more

Fitness and Christmas

The countdown is on for Christmas, and the Christmas parties will be starting soon. It’s a tough time of year to keep that habit that you’ve done so well forming! You can though, you just have to dig deep and push on but also be mindful that missing one or two sessions this time of year due to your social diary being full is ok, it really is! Don’t stress! If there’s one thing I will have learnt in 2019 it will be that ultimately fitness will always be there. If you have to leave it for a week due to not being able to stretch yourself or you’ve got the dreaded flu its ok. Really it is no dram ..read more
