I recently mentioned that I had some exciting things coming up on this blog, and this post is the first! I’ve been lucky enough to receive the opportunity to talk to True Crime author Antony M Brown about his latest book, Death of An Actress. The second installment in his Cold Case Jury series, Death of An Actress takes the reader back to 1947, aboard a steam liner on which actress Gay Gibson was travelling to Southampton. Somewhere along the way, her body ended up in the ocean, and a steward named James Camb is the prime suspect in a murder case. I spoke to Antony about his latest work, and a ..read more

Book review: Masking Evil by Carol Anne Davis

Occasionally, writers and publishing houses send me books to review. I’m a huge reader so any true crime books I can my hands on I devour. Masking Evil by Carol Anne Davis was definitely no exception. What sets this book apart from the hundreds of true crime titles on the shelves at the moment is its format. The book covers an overview of 37 different cases of good men and women turned evil, from a charity worker who murdered his wives to a policewoman gone bad. Davis writes almost as if she has first hand knowledge of the events of each crime, showing how thorough and detailed her research is ..read more

Joyce Mitchell and the Clinton escape

It was an escape of epic proportions. Law enforcement likened the feat to that of Andy Dufresne in Stephen King’s The Shawshank Redemption. But this story was to end differently. On the 5th of June 2015, two inmates of the Clinton Correctional Facility in New York used hacksaw blades to cut holes in the back wall of their cells. Richard Matt and David Sweat, both serving time for murder, were housed at the facility’s Honor Block, an area of the prison in which inmates were afforded special privileges – a cooking station, telephones, TVs and card tables – all to be used at their leisure. Ted Bundy: The Man Who Changed the Face of Murder

Theodore Robert Bundy, born in November of 1946, is an infamous serial killer. There aren’t many people who don’t know the name of this man, or the murders he committed. Before Ted, the public saw serial killers as societal rejects, men or women who had been shunned by others for one reason or another. The media painted these individuals as ugly, disfigured and mentally unstable. While the latter is usually true of someone who takes the life of another human being, some killers remained hidden as they simply didn’t ‘fit the bill’ of a horrifying madman. Ted Bundy changed everything. He came fr ..read more

Murder in a small town: the Sian O’Callaghan case

In 2011, something happened that would make sure a small town in Wiltshire was never the same again. In this town, the crime rate was among the lowest in the UK, and everyone seemed to know everyone. Having lived near this town for the first 18 years of my life, I can testify to this fact. In this quiet town called Swindon, a 22-year-old woman named Sian O’Callaghan was out with friends at a local nightclub called Suju. At 2:52 am on the 19th March, Sian left the club and started the 800-metre walk back to her flat, which she shared with her boyfriend, Kevin Reape. Sian O’Callaghan At 3:24 am ..read more

The name Robert Durst is one you may have heard before. Whether through media coverage, or in relation to the hit TV documentary ‘The Jinx’, the property scion has found his name on the lips of millions of people over the last 30 or so years. Despite the barrage of attention, so much mystery still surrounds this man. It seems that no one truly knows who this man is. Robert was the eldest of four, born into an extremely wealthy family thanks to his paternal grandfather, who founded the Durst family organization, a property management and development business. Although financially ..read more

Which serial killer has the most victims?

I recently published a post looking at the different characteristics of a killer, and what ‘criteria’ a person has to meet to fit into a certain category of murderer. I wanted to dig deeper into the different categories I covered, and where better to start than arguably the most well documented type of killer; the serial killer. Due to extensive media coverage around certain homicide cases, there are a few figures which come to mind when discussing the most prolific serial killers. Dahmer, Ridgeway, Bundy, Wuornos; all of these names have been splashed across the internet numero ..read more

The Tinder Murder and Gable Tostee – murder, manslaughter or innocence?

The latest case to stir up discussion on social media is the so-called ‘Tinder Murder’. News outlets have created sensational headlines, constantly plastering the internet with pictures of 30-year-old Gable Tostee, the man accused and acquitted of murder. Unfortunately, as is all too often, the most important person has been lost in all this coverage; the victim. On the 7th of August 2014, 26-year-old Warriena Wright was visiting Australia for a friend’s wedding. She had planned on two weeks of catching up with friends, skydiving and celebrating. She was staying in a hotel in Surfers Paradise ..read more

Diane Schuler and the Taconic State Parkway Crash

In 2009, on a sunny Sunday just outside New York, Diane Schuler was travelling down the Taconic State Parkway with her son, her daughter and her three nieces. She was driving at around 85 miles per hour, along the wrong side of the Parkway, for 1.7 miles. Diane hit another car head on, forcing it into another vehicle on the road. Eight people died that day. Why did this accident happen? What possessed Diane to enter a one way exit ramp clearly marked ‘Do Not Enter’? Why, when she was travelling with five children in the car, was she reported to be driving aggressively? The background Diane wa ..read more
