The Tesla Model 3 has a lot of functionality, but the front USB ports are always insufficient because you need to connect your music with a flash drive, play Boombox with a flash drive, and use the USB to charge your mobile phone and tablet fast. Because of the rising trend of gaming in a Tesla, two USB ports are not nearly enough, and finding a helpful USB Hub has become the first accessory needed after vehicle delivery. Recently, Tesla upgraded its center console design, adding a sliding door and two USB-C charging ports inside. Now located up front in the center console, the ports are in an ..read more

Rivian has started notifying customers that they will need to wait a bit longer to receive their vehicles. Rivian has sent notifications that lay out delivery windows for the “Launch Edition” that range from March to September. It’s reasonable to assume that the company’s less-pricey “Adventure” and “Explore” packages will also be pushed to the second half of 2022. While Rivian has started production of its all-electric R1T pickup, few have been delivered. The R1S SUV was expected to go into production next month, but it is not clear if that will be the case. Rivian currently operates a s ..read more

Some Tesla vehicles with access to the Full Self Driving beta program have started receiving version 10.5. Access to the beta program requires owners to give Tesla access to driving data to produce a “safety test score.“ Despite Tesla’s software taking over some of the driving duties, Tesla still wants attentive drivers behind the wheel. Beta access is only delivered to owners with a safety score of at least 98. Most TMC members were still waiting on access on Monday morning. According to the release notes, improvements include: Improved VRU (pedestrians, bicyclists, motorcycles) crossin ..read more

Consumer Reports’ recent reliability rankings were not kind to Tesla. The Tesla Model X ranked dead last alongside the Audi E-tron in the EV category. The report said that fully-electric SUVs are among the least reliable vehicles. “They include the Tesla Model X and Y, Audi E-Tron and Volkswagen ID.4,” the report said. “All have a high rate of problems in areas other than the electric powertrain. Some of these problems include climate controls, in-car electronics, and power equipment.” The report said Tesla’s Model 3 has average reliability, while Model Y has “body hardware issues with the tai ..read more

Investors continue to show strong support for electric vehicle companies. Lucid Group debuted Wednesday on the NASDAQ and became the eighth-most valuable automaker globally today.  With a market cap of about $80 billion, Lucid became the eighth-most highly valued automaker in the world, topping Ford. The strong showing comes a week after Rivian also wowed electric vehicle watchers with a market cap that touched $100 billion.  What’s interesting about the Lucid and Rivian support is that the companies have delivered few cars. Lucid said Monday it has more than 17,000 reservations ..read more

Tesla is delivering new cars without USB ports. “Yes, I just took delivery of a 2022 Y on Wednesday, and the 2 front USB-C sockets in the front console compartment, are missing,” floisand said in post on the forum. “There’s just two empty holes. Probably no coincidence that the wireless charger pads don’t work either. Really ticked off – the price you pay for a car like this and basic equipment has not been installed. So right now the only way to charge my phone is to run a cable from the USB-C sockets in the back, or lock it in the glovebox.” At least seven TMC members say their Model 3 and M ..read more
