The new Moon of January 29 ushered in the Chinese Year of the Snake. The twelve creatures of the Chinese zodiac are modified by its five elements (Metal, Water, Wood, Fire, Earth), meaning they revolve in a 60-year cycle; with

Cosmic Calendar The Year Ahead Astrologers become animated when major planets change sign or conjoin. Distant planets appear to move slowly to we earth dwellers, and between them supply a host of planetary cycles unknown to astrologers of old, for

In recent months, instead of astrologers being asked the usual questions – ‘What’s it like for Cancers/Scorpios and so on’, the question has become ‘Who is going to win the U.S. election, Trump or Harris?’ The same question has been

October is a busy month is the cosmos, thanks principally to a solar eclipse in Libra on the 2nd of the month. It is a total Solar Eclipse, and follows the partial eclipsed full Moon in Pisces in September. How

Arriving ten days late is a bit much, even by my standards. Many apologies for keeping my readers waiting while I have been wrangling Saturn to the ground – or actually, the other way round. We are now in eclipse

Some planetary configurations are more eloquent, less muddy than others. So, it was with the conjunction of Mars and Prometheus at mid-July, a harbinger of sudden, possibly violent episodes. The conjunction isn’t that rare an event, but its presence next

Nothing excites astrologers like a conjunction of major planets, which are reckoned key markers for the history of ideas and events. The conjunction of Jupiter and Prometheus in late April – which arrives every 13 and a half years – seems to have lived up to its reputation for upsetting apple carts, frightening the horses or putting the cat among the pigeons to adopt a few handy cliches. Surprise is Prometheus’ speciality, while Jupiter concerns knowledge and prestige.

A reader recently suggested that as my forecasts are invariably late, I should include the start of the following month. That seems appropriate for May, making the forecasts here inclusive of one entire lunation, from a new Moon on May 8th to a new Moon on June 6th. It’s a month dominated by three signs; Taurus, Gemini and Pisces, and by the shift of mighty Jupiter from Taurus to Gemini, but as ever, there is something in the planetary picture for everyone.
Major events
Sun in Taurus. Changes sign into Gemini on May 20th
Mercury in Aries is now direct. Changes sign into Taurus on May 15th

Solar Eclipse. The moon moving in front of the sun. Illustration
One problem with eclipses – aside from disputes about their meaning (expose or cover up?) – is that they get blamed for unfortunate events, personal or global, when other astrological omens might equally be held ‘responsible’. April’s planetary picture deserves especial scrutiny for this reason. A total solar eclipse like this on April 8 is not uncommon – there was one in April 2023, but because it was visible only from the North coast of Australia, it attracted far less attention than this April’s black out, which extends from M ..read more
