Overwhelmed by Creative Curriculum, TSG, and Conscience Discipline

I started at a new center a little over a month and half ago. We use creative curriculum and then we have to do documentations on teaching strategies. I don't even think I finished that test thing you have to do because my director forbids us from doing trainings off the clock, but is now telling me I need to be doing all these documentations (she's an amazing director none of this is against her) Anyways I used to work at a kiddie academy and was super used to their simple curriculum that I could easily turn into my own based on my class's needs, and I LOVED tadpoles. Now we use procare and ..read more

Naptime potty woes

(strictly a vent, I’m leaving this job in three weeks) I spend 90% of the hour I supervise nap managing potty visits for the kids that don’t sleep. Admins expect that we do things like update the app, do assessments, write newsletters, respond to parents, etc during time. They start mewling for the potty as soon as rest time starts, even though we potty immediately before. I can hold them off for a few minutes. Then the dance starts. Loudly ask to go. Sit for ten minutes. I ask them to finish up. Yell back “I’m pooping!!”. Five more minutes I call again. “I’m wiping!!”. I finally go in and th ..read more

Keep your sick kids home. It’s not that hard quit sending your fever ridden vomiting green snot leaking children home. If your kids have hfm and open sores don’t send them to school. And admin if a child has open sores for hand foot mouth don’t let a kid stay send them home. That’s how we have outbreaks. Even if I don’t have hfm I still worry about the kids. I don’t like my babies being sick. submitted by /u/Cjones90 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

Need resources

Hey yall. So I work in ECE doing data entry. Basically making sure the kiddos are meeting their health requirements. Does anyone have some resources or flyers with pictures as to why getting dental check ups are important? I need some gnarly handouts to give parents so they can get the point on why it’s important to go every 3 to 6 months. This year I’ve had issues getting those requirements met no matter how many times I reach out to them and go to the dental office myself to get the necessary documents and I want to avoid that next year. I’m hoping I can get some so I can have my boss appro ..read more

Teacher Appreciation Week Gifts from a non-teacher ECE Professional

Hi! Basically what the title says—I am not a teacher but I do work as an ECE professional alongside teachers. I have a small handful of them that I work particularly close with that I would like to gift something to. Any ideas on what would be some good gifts? Most ideas I see are very much oriented as coming from a parent/child/family or from administration giving bulk gifts to all teachers. I'm looking to give something more from the place of a close coworker. submitted by /u/Express-Shelter-3361 [visit reddit] [comments ..read more

OK so we have a hand foot mouth outbreak and there was one trial there today with sores that were not scabbed over. They were still open sores so he was contagious. That’s a thing that happened. I did not touch the child even though I was talking about how keep the child was. It’s all completely down the baby hall and then one classroom on my hall has it I feel like it’s going to spread to the whole facility the way it’s just slowly going class to class. But I found a spot on my thumb and I don’t know if it’s hand foot mouth it’s kind of a bump and it’s red and it looks maybe like it might tu ..read more

Trying to nip new child behaviors in the bud and mom is nonchalant

My classroom is 2.5-3.5 years old, I don't remember the exact age of this new child. We have the parents fill out a questionnaire beforehand so we have an idea of what we're getting into and on his it said he was kicked out of his last daycare for blowing raspberries, can only take a nap when given melatonin, and doesnt have a comfort object to help him at naptime. My classroom has me as the assistant (F), the lead (M), and our aide (F). He started on Monday and his behavior wasn't terrible. He listened to what I told him pretty well (which is better than my usual kids lol). Yesterday nap was ..read more

The outside of my door looks so bare compared to everyone else's. I have a single door, in the middle, a long rectangular glass window. What can we do at home to help our toddler stop hitting at daycare?

Hi there! Looking for some ideas for my 2-year-old (+3 mos) who is hitting and pushing friends at daycare, and the dog at home, pretty randomly (so, not in response to being angry or frustrated). Daycare let us know today that it seemed to be happening frequently this week. They say it seems like she might be bored and looking for a reaction. At home, we stop her from hitting/pushing/pulling on the dog and give her replacement behaviors (hugging or gentle pets) and if she still tries to be rough, we don’t let her access the dog for a while and we tell her why. Her daycare is great and is resp ..read more
